Today you will meet your local English-speaking guide for a walking tour to the lesser-known Dorsodoro area across the Grand Canal, which will include a visit to the Accademia Gallery; a dazzling collection of masterpieces spanning the full development of Venetian art from Byzantine to Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo. It is Venice’s equivalent to the Uffizi gallery in Florence. See paintings by Venetian artists, such as Paolo Veneziano, Gentile and Giovanni Bellini, Carpaccio, Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese and Tiepolo. Visit the 18th century Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, which contains the famous Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Founded by millionairess Peggy Guggenheim, the gallery is one of the most important collections of modern art in the world, encompassing the major artists of the 20th century.

Hidden Venice Walking Tour

Enjoy a walking tour to discover the hidden side of Venice. Located in a charming section of Venice, off the beaten track, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, the Frari Church, the Scuola di San Giovanni Evangelista, and the Scuola Grande dei Carmini are some of the most important monuments in the city, and yet remain relatively unknown to most tourists. On your way to the St. Polo District, stop first at the Rialto Bridge, one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, and the oldest. The present stone bridge, a single span designed by Antonio da Ponte, was completed in 1591. It is remarkably similar to the wooden bridge it succeeded. The bridge has defied its critics to become one of the architectural icons of Venice. In addition, The Scuola of Saint Rocco was one of the most powerful confraternities in Venice and as such the whole decoration went to one of the leading artists of the time: Jacopo Tintoretto.

After exploring the city’s streets by foot, enjoy Venice from the comfort of your own private gondola. In the early evening you will be met at your hotel and escorted to your nearest gondola pier. Climb aboard a traditional Venetian gondola for an unforgettable ride along the city’s famous canals.
