    DAY 1-4 DETAILS ACCOMMODATION

    Combining old-world elegance with compelling modernity, Cape Town is a city that deserves to be explored, and you will spend four nights at The Silo Hotel, ideally located at the iconic V&A Waterfront. Your second day in the city invites you to board a seriously scenic and eye-opening helicopter tour alongside Christo Brand, the prison guard assigned to Nelson Mandela during his time in Robben Island Prison, who became his good friend and confidant. Land on infamous Robben Island, before a visit to the Drakenstein Correctional Centre in Paarl, where Mandela spent his final years in prison. Your final stop is the town of Franschhoek, where you can enjoy wine-tasting in the vineyards of Sir Richard Branson’s Mont Rochelle Estate. More wine awaits on the next day with a private tour of the Cape Winelands alongside specialist connoisseur Harry Melk. Freedom Helicopter Flight Cape Town
Half Day Excursion

Meet Christo Brand, the prison guard assigned to Nelson Mandela during his time in Robben Island Prison, who became his good friend and confidant. He will join you for a scenic helicopter flight from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront to the infamous Robben Island, where you will land and enjoy a personal account from Christo of his time here. Then, the helicopter will soar over the beautiful Atlantic Seaboard, before heading inland to Steenberg, where Christo will share his memories of Madiba’s five and a half years at Pollsmoor Prison. Further east, you will fly towards Drakenstein Correctional Centre in Paarl, where Mandela spent his final years in prison. Your final stop is Sir Richard Brandon’s magnificent Mont Rochelle Estate in the Cape Winelands, where wine tasting a lunch amid the vineyards await.

Full Day Excursion

You will be met in the morning by your guide and specialist wine connoisseur, Harry Melk, setting off for the famed Winelands, taking a delightful drive which winds its way through superb mountain ranges, vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. The first stop is Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa, with canal-lined avenues, and magnificent examples of Cape Dutch architecture. Here, you will enjoy a wine tasting at one of the area’s iconic wine estates, as well as admiring a collection of fantastic contemporary art. After a delicious gourmet lunch, head to Franschhoek to discover some of the Winelands’ smaller, boutique wineries, enjoying another more intimate tasting alongside your expert connoisseur.

Due to its regional climates, South Africa can be enjoyed all year round. The Cape is warm and dry between November and February, when the north is wetter – and great for birding. May to September is generally best for game viewing.
