Setting off from UNESCO World Heritage Site Porto, you’ll explore the wonders of this renowned wine region from the comfort of the grand AmaDouro ship, as well as enjoy immersive included tours en route. Arrive in Porto and transfer to the award-winning luxury hotel, The Yeatman. Wander through the picturesque city streets of this UNESCO World Heritage Site discovering its art, culture, and history, before enjoying gourmet cuisine at the hotel’s two Michelin Star restaurant. During your 3-night stay you can also experience a variety of activities and excursions designed to familiarise you with the region’s wines. On day 4, embark your luxury ship ready to set off along the Douro River. 

Day 5 Entre-os-Rios, Portugal

Journey to the small village of Entre-os-Rios, which translates to ‘between the rivers’, an apt title for this serene settlement located where the Tâmega and Douro rivers meet. Here, you can get a taste of authentic Douro River life over a delicious traditional Portuguese lunch at a local quinta (country estate).

Visit the Baroque-style Palacio de Mateus and its beautiful gardens, said to be some of the most beautiful in all of Portugal. Later, sample some of the country’s renowned fortified wine, vinho do porto, produced exclusively in the Douro Valley. A local quinta is the perfect location for your authentic Port-wine tasting experience savouring the sweet flavours of this unique tipple.

Drive to Salamanca, one of Spain’s most beautiful and historic cities, where the old quarter has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the beautiful architecture on an escorted tour, which takes in renowned sites including the university, the breathtaking public square of Plaza Major, the stunning New Cathedral, and the intriguingly decorated House of Shells.

Soak up the beauty of the Douro River Valley as you cruise to Barca d’Alva, where a visit to the medieval village of Castelo Rodrigo promises age-old remains and spectacular views from its hilltop position. An exclusive dinner at Quinta da Avessada, a fascinating interactive museum celebrating the history and culture of wine in the Alto Douro region, allows you to learn about the stages of wine production, enjoy tasting some of the local bottles, and experience an authentic, traditional meal with accompanying entertainment.  

Day 9 Régua, Portugal

Travel to the elegant, historic town of Lamego where you will visit one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country, The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. 700 steps beautifully decorated with white and blue tiles lead the way to this hilltop sanctuary, from which stretching views over the town can be enjoyed. There is also a chance to sample some local specialities today, such as bôlas de Lamego, bread filled with smoked ham; presunto, a type of dry-cured ham; and Espumante, a Portuguese sparkling wine.

Arriving at Porto, an escorted tour introduces the highlights of the historic quarter to you, including the Cathedral, one of the city’s oldest monuments; and the São Bento Railway Station,famed for its blue and white tile panels depicting scenes from Portuguese history. There’s also time to taste some Port, Portugal’s best-known contribution to the world of wine, before you have some time at leisure to explore the city as you wish.

Day 11 to 15 Porto and the Douro Valley

With your river cruise at an end, disembark the ship and transfer to Six Senses Douro Valley, a tranquil retreat overlooking rolling vineyards and the river below. A 4-night stay allows you plenty of time to enjoy the array of activities and excursions, savour the delicious cuisine, and relax in the fantastic Six Senses Spa. On day 15 it’s time to return to the airport for your flight home.
