How Many Games Are in an NFL Regular Season?

Excluding the playoffs, each of the NFL's 32 teams play 17 games. The NFL fixtures are spread out across 18 weeks, with each team getting one rest, or 'bye' week. This means that an NFL season includes 272 games between September and January.

The Best NFL Fixtures 2025

NFC East Opens the Season

Who: Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles

When: Week 1. Thursday 4th September 2025

UK Time: 01:20 BST Friday 5th September

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia

Why it's a must-watch:

The 2025 NFL calendar will officially begin with an electrifying NFC East showdown. The Dallas Cowboys travel to Philadelphia to face the reigning Super Bowl LIX Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. After the offseason drought, any Week 1 game would spark excitement, but this fierce NFC East divisional rivalry makes it a prime-time spectacle. It's a game that will undoubtedly set the tone for both teams' seasons in the league.
Following the Eagles' dominant Super Bowl LIX victory, they will proudly raise their championship banner at Lincoln Financial Field at this NFL Week 1 fixture. The Cowboys, keen to erase the memory of their 2024 season struggles, including two decisive losses to the Eagles, will be looking to spoil the celebration and kick off new Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer's era with a statement win. Fans will also witness the much-anticipated return of a healthy Dak Prescott for the Cowboys, who missed crucial matchups against the Eagles last season.

The Clash of the MVP Quarterbacks

Who: Baltimore Ravens vs. Buffalo Bills

When: Week 1. Sunday 7th September 2025

UK Time: 01:20 BST Monday 8th September

Where: Highmark Stadium, New York

Why it's a must-watch:

Week 1 of the 2025 NFL games schedule features another blockbuster matchup: the Baltimore Ravens taking on the Buffalo Bills in a highly anticipated Sunday Night Football game.
This game pits two of the league's most dynamic and decorated quarterbacks against each other: Lamar Jackson of the Ravens and Josh Allen of the Bills. Both players are the NFL's most recent MVPs with Allen winning the award in 2024, and Jackson taking the title the year before. Their head-to-head battles are renowned for having a high-octane offense. For fans of elite quarterback play, this Ravens-Bills game is an absolute must-watch.
After yet again falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2024 playoffs, the Buffalo Bills will start their season off with a home game at Orchard Park looking to assert their dominance. Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens also had a powerful season and have only strengthened their roster. Some are even picking the 2025 Baltimore Ravens as a top Super Bowl contender.
Expect fireworks when these two MVP quarterbacks share the field at the start of the NFL calendar 2025.

Aaron Rodgers Could Beat All 32 NFL Teams

Who: Pittsburgh Steelers v Green Bay Packers

When: Week 8. Sunday 28th October 2025

UK Time: 00:20 Monday 29th October

Where: Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh

Why it's a must-watch:

Aaron Rodgers is one of the most famous NFL players, having spent 18 legendary seasons with the Green Bay Packers, until his highly publicised trade to the New York Jets in 2023. His season with the Jets turned out to be an underwhelming one, unfortunately cut short after a season-ending ACL injury in Week 1. Now, he's made a significant move to Pittsburgh for what the iconic quarterback is "pretty sure" is his last season in the NFL.
In Week 8 of the 2025 NFL schedule, Aaron Rodgers has a momentous opportunity to join an exclusive set of quarterbacks, currently consisting of just four others: Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and his Green Bay predecessor Brett Favre. To achieve this rare feat, he needs to secure a win with the Pittsburgh Steelers against the Green Bay Packers. This victory would mark him as a quarterback who has defeated all 32 NFL teams in his career.
Not only will this be his first-ever face-off with his former team, but if this truly is his final season, it's also quite likely to be his last chance to achieve such a significant milestone. This game holds immense historical importance.

AFC Rivals Reignite

Who: Buffalo Bills v Kansas City Chiefs

When: Week 9. Sunday 2nd November 2025

UK Time: 21:25 Sunday 2nd November

Where: Highmark Stadium, New York

Why it's a must-watch:

The rivalry between Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes is quickly becoming the modern-day Tom Brady and Peyton Manning. It's a compelling rivalry that consistently captures everyone's attention, with their head-to-head matchups always delivering high-scoring affairs and incredibly close calls. These are undoubtedly two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now, so when they share the screen, it's an absolute must-watch event.
The Buffalo Bills have consistently proven that they can hold their own in this regular season fixture. However, it's the postseason where they have struggled to take the ultimate win against the Chiefs. Despite past playoff outcomes, every game between these two heavyweight AFC teams just gets better and better.
This NFL Week 8 fixture is just the next thrilling installment of the Allen v Mahomes saga.

Super Bowl LIX Rematch

Who: Philadelphia Eagles v Kansas City Chiefs

When: Week 2. Sunday 14th September 2025

UK Time: 21:25 Sunday 14th September

Where: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City

Why it's a must-watch:

The Kansas City Chiefs had the potential to achieve an unprecedented "three-peat" in Super Bowl LIX, aiming for three consecutive rings. Yet, in a showcase of defensive dominance, the Philadelphia Eagles emphatically blew out that historic dream.
Not only did the Philadelphia Eagles hold the Chiefs' offense to zero points for the entire first half of the Super Bowl, but rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean took the spotlight with an interception-turned-pick-six - on his birthday, no less.
This offseason has seen the Kansas City Chiefs strategically strengthen their offensive line, picking up two key tackles. Conversely, the Philadelphia Eagles lost some key defensive players in free agency, which could present new challenges. With this highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch occurring so early in the NFL calendar, in Week 2, the Philadelphia Eagles v Kansas City Chiefs game is sure to be an exciting rematch as both teams look to make an early statement.

2025 NFL London Games Kick Off

Who: Minnesota Vikings v Cleveland Browns

When: Week 5. Sunday 5th October 2025

UK Time: 14:30 Sunday 5th October

Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London

Why it's a must-watch:

Admittedly the NFL London Games may not have the same historical atmosphere as the rest of the schedule, but this time, there's a significant amount on the line for both the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns.
The NFL London Games 2025 will mark the second time we'll see the Browns versus Vikings face off in London, with their first encounter being the 2017 game which saw the Vikings emerge victorious. That was also the Browns' last international NFL game, so will they be returning with something to prove in this London rematch?
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings notably feature in the NFL International Games 2025 schedule with a record-breaking three countries in one season; this Tottenham NFL game comes off the back of Week 4 against Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin. Will the international travel impact their performance, or will this history-making game go the Vikings' way again?

NFC Heavy Hitters

Who: Detroit Lions v Philadelphia Eagles

When: Week 11. Sunday 16th November 2025

UK Time: 01:20 Monday 17th November

Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia

Why it's a must-watch:

This late-season matchup could very well be an NFL playoffs fixture preview. The Detroit Lions and the Philadelphia Eagles are two incredibly strong teams who look even stronger following the 2025 NFL Draft and off-season moves
The current Super Bowl LIX Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, did experience some losses in free agency and trades. That being said, they ultimately picked up both offensive strength and defensive talent in this year's draft, ensuring they remain contenders.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions strategically drafted two guards, providing both vital competition and backup for this position, strengthening their offensive line.
This is set to be an epic Sunday Night Football showdown between two NFC division dominators.

Rookie QBs of 2024

Who: Chicago Bears v Washington Commanders

When: Week 6. Monday 13th October 2025

UK Time: 01:15 Tuesday 14th October

Where: Northwest Stadium, Maryland

Why it's a must-watch:

At the start of last season, every NFL fan, pundit and analyst was asking the same question: Who's the best quarterback, Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels? The two highly touted rookie quarterbacks were compared at every opportunity, and it's for that same reason that fans are excited for this Week 6 NFL fixture - this is the future of the league.
To add even more drama, Chicago Bears v Washington Commanders last year had what was quite possibly the most intense ending to a game all season. There's sure to be some lingering heat and a need for redemption between the two after Jayden Daniels' insane Hail Mary game-winner snatched victory for the Commanders in their 2024 encounter.
Expect another thrilling battle of these emerging stars.

One Season Wonder?

Who: Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs

When: Week 11. Sunday 16th November 2025

UK Time: 21:25 Sunday 16th November

Where: Empower Field at Mile High, Denver

Why it's a must-watch:

Bo Nix, a Denver Broncos 2024 draft pick, put on a record-setting performance in his rookie season. He notably set the rookie record for the most games with 200 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and no interceptions. However, what truly impressed NFL observers most was his surprising work against the formidable Chiefs dynasty.
In their November 2024 game, viewers were left in awe as the Broncos' field goal unit came on, with one kick to win the game. In a massive, unexpected play, this potential game-winner was then blocked by Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal, allowing the Chiefs to claim a dramatic victory. Yet, in their January rematch, the Broncos came back fighting, stunning Kansas City with a rare and dominant blowout win of 38-0.
This 2025 season, we get to see whether Nix's impressive performance in Chiefs fixtures was merely rookie luck or something much more enduring. Week 11 will be the first of two AFC West battles between Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs, but we'll see the matchup again in the Christmas Day NFL Games, watchable in the UK on Netflix.

Personal Pick

Who: Miami Dolphins v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When: Week 17, Sunday 28th December 2025

UK Time: 18:00 Sunday 28th December

Where: Hard Rock Stadium, Miami

Why it's a must-watch:

As a Buccaneers fan, I can't write a list of the must-watch games of the NFL 2025 calendar in good faith without featuring one of our games here. My most anticipated game of the Buccaneers 2025 schedule? Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Miami Dolphins.
While this is not a divisional match-up, this Week 17 NFL fixture is between Florida neighbours, which adds a bit of heat to this inter-conference game. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be starting the 2025-2026 season in the hunt for their fifth straight NFC South division championships. With this game scheduled so close to the end of the NFL calendar, we'll be looking at a clearer NFL playoff games picture which could mean high stakes and therefore hopefully high levels of play for both teams.
Since it is an inter-conference game, Tampa Bay v Miami is a less common matchup. This one is lined up for Hard Rock Stadium, and ever since I learnt about the Miami Dolphin's home-field advantage of strategically placing the visiting team's sideline in direct sunlight, I have to say I'm intrigued to see the impact on a fellow Floridian roster.
