Playa Blanca
Located on the island’s south coast, Playa Blanca began life as a sleepy fishing town, but its show-stopping setting soon won hearts, bringing locals and guests alike to spend sunny days here, soaking up the charming Canarian ambience. At its core, Playa Blanca remains true to its traditional origins, but enjoys elevated status as a modern yacht marina with upmarket boutiques, bars and eateries overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and legendary ‘white beach’ – the perfect destination for a luxury escape.
Marina Rubicón
The newest development in Playa Blanca is this sleek, modern marina complex, featuring an upscale shopping village and a glamorous collection of seafront restaurants and bars. Marina Rubićon is fast-establishing a reputation as the location of choice for the island’s elite, whilst also housing many of Lanzarote’s best aquatic adventure retailers, with diving, sailing and yacht charters all readily available from the marina.
Beaches
Playa Blanca is home to a trio of simply stunning Blue Flag beaches. The main beach is Playa Blanca itself, a popular, family-friendly stretch of soft sands and cool waters. The neighbouring Playa Flamingo is within walking distance of Playa Blanca’s marina and remains something of a hidden gem – don’t be surprised to find local fishermen sourcing the day’s octopus and barracuda from this beach’s fish-filled waters. Also nearby, discover Playa Dorada, or ‘Golden Beach’, a hub of water sports activity for those seeking an adventurous day at sea.
Waterpark
Younger travellers are sure to delight in Lanzarote’s two glorious waterparks. Dino Park is in Playa Blanca and is a small but substantial waterpark, offering a range of rides for adults, alongside specialist children’s slides. The island’s main waterpark, however, is in Costa Tequise on Lanzarote’s east coast, just a forty-minute drive from Playa Blanca. Aquapark Costa Tequise comprises many slides and pools of different styles, shapes and depths to cater for younger guests and thrill-seeking adults alike.
Dining
The marina is home to many excellent eateries and refined restaurants. While there is an extensive range of cuisine on offer, the abundance of local fishing makes seafood a real speciality – don’t miss out! Another must-try is ‘papas arrugadas’, the signature dish of The Canaries that is traditionally served tapas style, as an accompaniment to a main meal. The basic recipe calls for the smallest new potatoes the chef can find, lashings of salt and a rich tomato sauce, but many modern interpretations see this dish served in new and inspiring ways throughout the islands.
Local Market
Every Wednesday and Saturday, from 9am to 2pm, the Marina Rubicon Market takes place in Playa Blanca. The market showcases a colourful variety of stalls selling authentic island specialities and souvenirs, together with a thriving social scene, including live music and dance.
Rejuvenate
Our featured hotel, Princess Yaiza Suite Resort’s signature Thalasso Spa is located a short distance from the main hotel building and is Lanzarote’s go-to destination for rejuvinating, relaxing and replenishing treatments. The spa offers the ultimate indulgence treatments including the volcanic stone massage, inspired by the island’s volcanic geology, and the Family Spa Day Package, which promotes health and wellbeing for all ages.
