Arriving into Adelaide after an overnight flight, check in to the centrally located Mayfair Hotel for a three night stay. With a thriving art and food scene, Adelaide offers much for culture enthusiasts and gourmands, and the diverse calendar of cultural events ensures there is always something to see and do. During your time in the city you will also venture out to the Barossa Valley, one of the country's leading wine regions, to visit some of the famous vineyards, sample their vintages and enjoy a delicious lunch paired with fine wine.

Today, you depart from Adelaide onboard the iconic Ghan train, beginning your journey from coast to coast through the fiery Red Centre. Settle into your cabin and take in the views of South Australia's rolling countryside from the window, or mingle with your fellow passengers in the lounge car. Before long some of the oldest rock formations in the world, the Flinders Ranges, come into view. As day turns to night, it's time to enjoy regionally-inspired cuisine and fine wines before retiring to your comfortable cabin as the world continues to speed by.

Watch the desert come to life at sunrise at Marla, an outback outpost in the remote reaches of South Australia. Continuing through the MacDonnell Ranges to Alice Springs, a choice of Off Train Excursions await you - 1,500 kilometres from the nearest major city, Alice Springs might be remote, but there's plenty to explore. Discover its historic legacy and unique landscape during your time here.
The day dawns in the tropical north, where the pristine wilderness of Katherine is waiting to impress. Explore the spectacular landscape on an Off Train Experience - cruise the awe-inspiring Nitmiluk Gorge, learn about indigenous rock paintings and discover more about the culture of the Jawoyn people. As evening falls, Darwin approaches and the end of your epic Australian journey.

Spend some time lazing on the white sands of Mindil Beach or unwinding by the sparkling infinity pool, dine in the four delightful restaurants and try your luck in the 24 hour casino. The hotel is also perfectly positioned for exploring Darwin's attractions.
Your transfer from Darwin to Bamurru Plains, just outside Kakadu National Park, is a private scenic air transfer, an amazing experience that perfectly sets the scene for the next three nights in this luxurious bush lodge. A whole host of exciting bush experiences are included during your stay, allowing you to explore the vast tropical landscape. Dependent on seasonality, you might be able to enjoy a thrilling airboat ride across the floodplains, search for saltwater crocodiles on a river cruise, or head out on an open-top game drive. Bird-watching and guided walks provide further opportunities to explore the fascinating flora and fauna. Back at the lodge, you can relax by the pool overlooking the floodplains and enjoy delectable seasonal cuisine courtesy of the in-house culinary team.

A fantastic day tour that introduces you to some of the most famous wines in Australia with private tastings and a VIP experience at Henschke Wines. Your first stop is Torbreck’s The Laird Vineyard to see one of the most famous single vineyard sites in the country, continuing on to one of the Barossa’s most famous boutique wine brands, Elderton Wines, where you can enjoy a tour and private tasting session in the Elderton Homestead. Next it's onward to Torbreck, home to some of the finest vineyards and growers in the region making ultra-premium wines, where a winery tour, barrel tasting and private cellar door tasting is included. A delicious two-course lunch with paired wines is then served at Vintners Restaurant before a VIP Tour and Tasting Experience at Henschke Wines. Making arguably the best wine in all of Australia, produced by six generations of the Henschke family, you can enjoy exclusive hosted access to the celebrated vineyard, Hill of Grace, with an hour in the vineyard walking next to the oldest 'Grandfather' vines that date back to the 1860s. A tour of the historical working winery will give you an insight into 150 years of family winemaking and a private tasting of ten wines, including Henschke's most precious vintages, is sure to impress.
The Ghan operates on this route from April to October with the lowest temperatures in the Red Centre from May to August. Darwin and the north is best visited May to October during the dry season.
