Timber Cove
With a story dating back to 1963, Timber Cove Resort is a Californian hideaway with a difference. Originally built by Richard Clements Junior, who was inspired by the architectural style of Frank Lloyd Wright, this intimate coastal bolt-hole hotel is the place to be if you want to be immersed in the beauty of the Sonoma Coast.
Located along Highway 1, about two hours away from the San Francisco Bay area, the interiors were refurbished in 2016 and are beautifully designed, remaining faithful to the landscape with sturdy timber and worn leather while giving a nod to the 1960s; every guestroom even features a Crosley LP record player with a collection of vinyl records plus a yoga mat, while most rooms also feature a cosy fireplace for you to really feel at home.
The restaurant, Coast Kitchen, boasts beautiful sea views, and features dishes created from locally sourced ingredients, though you can always spend the evening roasting marshmallows by one of the fire pits or stargazing under the stunning California sky. There is plenty to do in the area, too. Considered one of the State’s most beautiful stretches of coast, often captured by renowned photographer Ansel Adams, you can trek, kayak and river raft, plus enjoy the fantastic wine regions of Russian River and Green Valley.
