Safari
An authentic safari experience, the Explorer Camp offers two or three night walking trails. Back to the roots of the Shamwari, the expert guides take guests on morning and afternoon walking safaris: learn the natural and cultural history of the beautiful area whilst encountering the ‘Big Five’ on these exhilarating excursions. Distances of the walks vary each day, but can last up to four hours, ensuring ample opportunity to get close to the vast array of wildlife in the reserve. Open game viewing vehicles offering panoramic views are used to ensure a variety of trails, some of which don’t depart from the camp. Enjoy a safari experience unlike any other before returning to relax and adore the landscapes at camp, preparing for more of the incredible reserve.
Wildlife Encounters
A stay at the Explorer Camp offers once-in-a-lifetime wildlife encounters. Simply relaxing at camp, in the tent or on the viewing deck, you may catch wild animals passing through. Meanwhile, the twice-daily walks provide a unique viewpoint of the reserve, getting close to the eco-systems and the wildlife within. The armed expert rangers allow guests to encounter the huge array of animals, including the famed ‘Big Five’ at an unforgettable close distance. After the safari experience, visit the awareness centres of Shamwari, which are vital in the reserve’s conservation work. The Born Free Cat Sanctuary rescues big cats exploited in captivity and provides them with sanctuary. Take a trip here and learn about wildlife conservation, whilst visiting the beautiful animals up close.
