Wildlife Encounters
This lovely lodge is perfectly placed to embrace the wonderful wildlife of the Volcanoes National Park. Head out with an expert tracker as you hike in search of the hundreds of mountain gorillas that live on the slopes of the Virunga Mountains, before unwinding back in your cosy cottage. There are also trekking routes dedicated to spotting the golden monkey, while the park’s prolific birdlife is sure to impress.
Culture & History
As well as the incredible wildlife, a stay here allows you to learn more about the local culture. A private village tour sets off from the lodge, on which you can meet villagers going about their daily activities, joining in with local song and dance, or trying your hand at grinding sorghum with a stone. This emphasis on the local community continues through the camp’s ownership by SACOLA, a community trust that uses the income to drive socio-economic and conservation initiatives in the locality.
