Location and transfer
Zannier Hotels Sonop is located in the Namib Desert, approximately 500km from Windhoek, a five hour drive. The hotel is equipped with its own landing strip, allowing guests to access the lodge from any African airport with small planes. The nearest international airport is Windhoek Hosea Kutako Airport from which it is a one hour and 20 minute plane journey.
Eight one-bedroom and two two-bedroom tents boast panoramic desert views revealed through roll-up canvas sides, and inside elegant interiors ooze luxurious, old-world charm. Offering 42㎡ of space, one-bedroom tents can accommodate two adults and one child aged between 6 and 12, whilst larger two bedroom tents spanning 75㎡ are suited to larger families or groups of friends. A plush king-size bed, living area with comfortable armchairs, desk and telescope are joined by antique items and vintage touches inside, and a separate bathroom with double vanity, decadent bathtub and rain shower is wonderfully relaxing. Two-bedroom tents offer two en suite bathrooms alongside a common living area. Every tent at Zannier Hotels Sonop is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine, kettle, safe, air conditioning system, heating and a docking station, with equipment powered solely by the lodge's solar panels.
Gourmet cuisine is served against a breathtaking desert backdrop in the lodge's communal area at the centre of the camp. Start the day with a delicious a la carte breakfast, later take a seat for light bite dishes in the restaurant for lunch, or choose to luxuriate by the shimmering infinity pool, where the pool bar serves drinks and all-day small bites. A traditional afternoon tea can be enjoyed in the lounge or on the terrace overlooking the desert landscape, and dinner is an elegant affair - a five-course meal served to a communal table laid with the finest silverware by Butlers in black-tie and white gloves. Guests can extend the evening in the nostalgic surroundings of the Cocktail & Cigar Lounge, where cocktails and fine spirits are available to refresh, and a billiard table and parlour games can entertain.
Hotel Experiences
A variety of outdoor excursions in the 5,600 hectares of the private desert reserve, and beyond in the Namib Desert, promise to excite and enthral. Explore the captivating landscape, where oryxes, brown hyenas, rabbits, foxes, jackals, kudus and leopards roam free, choosing between venturing out on foot, or riding a horse from the hotel's own stables. Electric mountain bikes and comfortable 4x4s offer an alternative way to discover the wonders nearby, and other activities can be organised on demand - perhaps taking to the skies on a memorable hot air balloon ride or enjoying an intimate private dinner, just the two of you and the breathtaking views.
Spa Breaks
A spa with two double treatment rooms offers a wellness menu designed to relax, revitalise, and rejuvenate, administered by expert therapists and using only the finest natural and organic ingredients. A serene relaxation area is the perfect place to take a moment to yourself after one of the sumptuous treatments. Yoga and meditation are available, and there is also a well-equipped fitness room complete with free weights, benches and barbells, and a variety of cardio equipment. And after all that exercise, there's nowhere better to relax than at the impressive outdoor heated infinity pool, gazing out across the desert as you take a dip in the refreshing water.
