Wildlife Encounters
Serra Cafema is the most remote safari camp in Africa and the nearest permanent residence is at least a twelve-hour drive away. It is this isolation that makes each safari experience so remarkable. Guests at Serra Cafema can enjoy numerous nature-drives and environmentally friendly quad-bike excursions through the sand dunes. Boating trips down the Kunene River (home to a large population of Nile Crocodiles) are second-to-none, especially as you pass congregations of Kunene Crocodiles - an abstract sight, considering you are in the desert. Friendly and enthusiastic Guides will also take you to remote mountain villages to meet genuine African nomads and, if you're really astute to your surroundings, you may even spot the elusive Desert Chameleon.
Culture & History
As part of your Serra Cafema experience, expert Guides will lead you to a unique Himba settlement to observe the lifestyle of a nomadic tribe, should they be in the area during your visit. The Himba people are fiercely proud and exceedingly friendly - you will feel instantly welcome here. Members are characterised by their elaborate jewellery, intricate hairstyles and traditional clothing, although, as ever, western influences continue to seep through. Nevertheless, there is something very humbling about the Himba way of life and, because they constantly move across the terrain in order to breed cattle and goats, the energy they bestow is positively infectious.
Luxury Family Holidays
Children over six years old are welcome. All parties with children of twelve years old and younger are required to book and pay for private activities (at an extra cost) unless they have booked the camp on an exclusive-use basis or have filled a vehicle (6 guests) and would, thus, have had sole-use of the vehicle. The following age restrictions apply (where these activities are applicable to each lodge/camp): For boat trips, children must be six years of age or over, twelve years old for safari walks and at least sixteen years old for quad-biking.
