Culture & History
Borgo Pignano is set in a 18th century villa and hamlet surrounded by 750-acres of organic farmland, which is dedicated to producing traditional organic food. Some of the original remaining walls date back over 2,500 years to the first settlement of people who lived here, while over the last nine-hundred years, the site has seen battles, a hospital and hardships of WWII. In addition, the Borgo Pignano Art Gallery and exhibition space, set in the hotel’s restored farmhouse building, is a wonderful place to discover inspiring contemporary artworks. Nearby, you can find the historic towns of Volterra and San Gimignano, plus the cities of Pisa and Florence.
Hotel Experiences
Take a guided tour of the Borgo Pignano farm to learn about how the agriculture and food production works, help collect organic honey from the beehives and see how the freshly grown herbs are put to use in the kitchen or visit the herbal laboratory to see how they are transformed into soaps. You can also learn how to make your own traditional bread, focaccia and pizza with a cooking class or enjoy wine tasting in the historic 18th century villa cellar with an expert. If you are feeling inspired by the beauty of your surroundings, join a painting class, or if you’d rather unwind then join a yoga session out on the lawn. For the adventurous, there is horse-riding, mountain biking and trekking available.
Weddings
Borgo Pignano is a truly heart stopping location for a wedding. The estate’s Romanesque parish church, San Bartolomeo, has served uniting couples since the thirteenth century, and still rings out its bells to celebrate weddings today. The sprawling lawn terraces boast beautiful views over the town of Volterra, while the historic villa, gardens and courtyards are a wonderful backdrop to serve your wedding photos. Furthermore, the brilliant array of activities, such as wine-tasting, cooking lessons, yoga classes and horse-riding, are perfect for all guests of the wedding party, while the spa is exceptional for a pre-wedding facial before the big day.
Luxury Family Holidays
Children receive a warm welcome at Borgo Pignano, where the beautiful countryside location, gardens and woodland offer a world of wonders for all ages to explore and run free. From June to August, there is a children’s club open for ages four to twelve years, where young guests are led by staff in fun and creative activities, such as outdoor painting, dye-making with flowers and spices, clay modelling and sculpture-making with natural materials. There is also a children’s swimming pool for ages twelve years and under and a babysitting service.
Spa Breaks
Borgo Pignano’s new wellness area draws inspiration from the stunning natural surroundings, transforming the flowers, herbs, plants, honey and oils into unique organic products for luxurious treatments in the charming former well house, which was used to collect water for the village in Medieval times. An indulgent selection of massages offers the perfect way to relax, incorporating aromatherapy, exfoliation and lymphatic circulation techniques, while facials use natural ingredients for deep cleansing, hydration and regeneration. In addition, you can enjoy the sauna, hammam and steam bath, before relaxing with a fresh herbal tea and breathing in the fresh country air.
