Culture & History
History buffs will fall in love with Udaipur. This ancient city is a treasure trove of historic gems, whose foundation stones were laid in 1557 AD by Maharana Udai Singh. The magnificent Aravalli Mountain range acted as a natural defence and the city remained protected from the fiercest warriors throughout history - including the Mughal armies. Visit amazing sites - including SajjanGarh, the Monsoon Palace of Udaipur royalty and the stunning City Palace Museum, portraying fascinating aristocratic history of Mewar - or head further afield over to the mountain pass of Haldighati, situated 40 kilometres from the city. This landmark witnessed the battle between MaharanaPratap and the Mughals in 1576.
