Xi'an is a picturesque, ancient walled city more than six-hundred years old, and boasts many cultural landmarks within its vicinity, including the famous Bell Tower monument - considered to be the centre of Xi'an - Big Goose Pagoda, Drum Tower and the Terracotta Warrior Museum, which is approximately twenty-two miles from the hotel. The Terracotta Warriors need little introduction, but were discovered by accident in 1974 by a group of peasants who were digging a well. The site of an emperor's mausoleum, the artefacts, pottery and (most famously) horses, warriors and chariots, are believed to have been created to accompany the emperor into the afterlife, protecting him from harm. Xi'an is one of the few Chinese cities that has been able to preserve its 14 kilometre-long city walls and this rare architectural wonder, dating from the Ming Dynasty period, can be discovered on foot or, more popularly, by bike.
Culture & History
Shaanxi History Museum is three miles away and showcases a million years of Chinese history within its walls, while Banpo Museum is approximately six miles away and has welcomed over two-million visitors since it opened in the 1950s. Built around the base of a six-thousand-year-old Neolithical community's village, Banpo, the museum is replete with primitive relics from the time, including kilns, huts and tombs that the villagers' used on a daily basis.
The hotel boasts a small spa, comprising three treatment rooms, including a spacious couple's treatment room, and is exclusively for the use of hotel guests to enjoy massages. In addition, there's a traditional Chinese foot massage room.
The spa's heated outdoor swimming pool allows guests to swim laps and looks out upon lush scenery through its banks of floor-to-ceiling windows. A small gym is adjacent to the swimming pool and can be seen from the pool through a wall of glass. Equipment includes stationary bikes and there is also a sauna and a Jacuzzi.
Bicycles are available for guests to use and would be perfect for touring the city's walls, which are fourteen kilometres long, while daily Tai Chi classes - held in the hotel's beautiful landscaped gardens - offer a calming, spiritual start to the day.
