Touring in Argentina with Elegant Resorts
Throughout Argentina, you’ll find staggeringly beautiful scenery comprising snow-capped mountains, gin-clear blue lakes and lush green forests, perfect for lovers of the outdoors, wildlife and those who enjoy outdoor pursuits. Much of this scenery has been designated national park status and is UNESCO-listed, such is its majestic beauty and global importance. As such, these areas offer travellers an excellent option for a thrilling tailor-made adventure.
In the south, discover Argentina’s Lake District, including Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, Perito Moreno National Park and Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi. Bariloche makes for a truly stunning base in Nahuel Huapi and boasts astounding Alpine-like scenery and an exquisite lake. Activities include hiking, fishing, bird-watching and walking the marked trails, while on Nahuel Huapi Lake itself, many visitors enjoy boat cruises, kayaking, fishing and relaxing on the beaches. With a hire car, it is easy to get out and explore the lake’s perimeter, stopping off for a spot of lunch or light refreshments, while excellent panoramic views of the lake can be enjoyed following a twelve-minute accent on the Cerro Otto cable-car. Further north, Parque National Iguazu rainforest straddles the border between Argentina and Brazil and has as its centrepiece the breathtaking, UNESCO-listed, Iguazu Falls. There are a number of ways to experience the beauty and ferocity of the series of waterfalls, via the Upper Circuit (offering splendid panoramic views from the top of the semi-circular chain of waterfalls) or from the Lower Circuit, which gives an entirely different (and wetter!) perspective. Alternatively, you could take the rainforest train that terminates at Devil’s Throat; enjoy walking along the Macuco Trail, observing the wild birds and animals that make the jungle their home, including Cai Monkeys, parrots and anteaters. Interpretive exhibits along the trail offer an insight into the park’s remarkable biodiversity.
