Solheimajokull is a great place for an ice walk, while Thormsmork valley, accessible only with a mountain vehicle, reveals mountains, glaciers and birchwoods. During summer, there is also fertile farmlands, making ideal terrain for riding with some of the county’s friendly pony-sized horses – unique to Iceland, the breed first emerged with Norwegian settlers over one-thousand years ago, and their pretty appearance makes them an icon on the landscape.
