Luxury Holidays To South Shore & South East With Elegant Resorts

Iceland’s South Shore is where you will find some of the country’s most astounding scenes of natural beauty. Along this stretch of coast, spanning just south of Reykjavik to Vatnajökull National Park, there is a trove of spectacular sights and experiences to behold.

There are waterfalls aplenty to marvel at, here; the sixty-meter-high Seljalandsfoss waterfall flows from the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier, while Skogarfoss waterfall is said to be one of the most beautiful in the country. There is also the striking Gigjokull glacier and lagoon and the basalt sea stacks of Reynisdrangar to marvel at; the latter is said to have originated when two trolls unsuccessfully dragged a ship to land and turned to rock when daylight broke.

Adventurers will have plenty to fuel their adrenaline with, too. Solheimajokull is a great place for an ice walk, while Thormsmork valley, accessible only with a mountain vehicle, reveals mountains, glaciers and birchwoods. During summer, there is also fertile farmlands, making ideal terrain for riding with some of the county’s friendly pony-sized horses – unique to Iceland, the breed first emerged with Norwegian settlers over one-thousand years ago, and their pretty appearance makes them an icon on the landscape.
