When one city street contains a half-size replica of the Eiffel Tower, a larger-than-life Sphinx and a scaled-down skyline of New York City, you know you’re in for an amazingly over-the-top experience. Filled with neon-lit extravagance, this city in the desert is a playground of glamorous entertainment for adults, offering a bumper choice of hotel rooms, around-the-clock casinos, red-carpet nightclubs, rooftop champagne bars, extraordinary restaurants, Broadway-style shows, designer shopping, quirky wedding chapels, state-of-art galleries, museums and international sporting events. Absolutely nothing can be described as modest. Swap lavish showmanship in the city to mind-boggling handiwork courtesy of Mother Nature. Las Vegas is the gateway to some of the world’s most inspiring landscapes, including Red Rock Canyon, Mount Charleston and, of course, the Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon Helicopter Tours

Take an exhilarating flight over Lake Las Vegas, Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and Fortification Hill, before landing 3,500 feet into the Grand Canyon Hualapai Indian Territory for a flute of fizz and a jaw-dropping scene of the mighty Colorado River below. On the return leg, fly back through the Grand Canyon, noting the spectacular red rock formations of the Bowl of Fire, before passing over Las Vegas Downtown and the Las Vegas Strip. As you might imagine, there is one amazing view followed by another amazing view, followed by another, then another and another…a prime time for snapping that perfect shot of this overwhelmingly stunning and colourful landscape.

The Strip

‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada’, the iconic sign that introduces The Strip, a four-mile boulevard of fun and glamour lined with mega luxury hotels, glitzy casinos, exclusive shops, celebrity restaurants and high-rise architecture that forms the distinctive cityscape. You’ll stumble across countless visual wonders, such as the Statue of Liberty, cloud-piercing Stratosphere, Bellagio’s dancing fountains and the Mirage’s exploding volcano – the latter two spectacularly choreographed to music. The Strip is especially show-stopping at night, bathed in a rainbow of brilliant neon lights.

When it comes to casinos, seeing is believing! Las Vegas overflows with buzzing casinos that stay wide-awake until dawn, with everything from coin-popping slot machines, to roulette-whirring card tables. Hence its nickname ‘Sin City’. Wherever you look there’s a gambling hall of some kind; standalone, in a nightclub or within one of the many plush hotels. Indeed, there’s somewhere for everyone to place a bet if that’s what you fancy. Croupiers offer quick guides for beginners if you feel like a flutter, but aren’t sure about tactics.

Stage Shows

Elvis, Sinatra, Elton John, Diana Ross, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga – Las Vegas is famous, past and present, for hosting celebrities and its line-up of stage shows is truly exceptional. Showbiz is a huge part of its make up, so expect top-class performers and applauding audiences. There are world-renowned singers, superb tribute acts, highly amusing comedians, twirling acrobats, as well as circus, burlesque and cabaret acts and every other sort of production imaginable – something to appeal to every taste and always performed with such style. Highly popular with visitors are the incredible shows by Cirque du Soleil, mixing artistry, acrobatics and illusion, showcased in seven impressive theatres, including aquatic masterpiece ‘O™’ at the Bellagio.

A world away from its Egyptian theme, the golden pyramid at the Luxor Hotel houses a Titanic exhibition, with fascinating relics from the depths of the ocean and a full-scale recreation of the Grand Staircase. If you’re interested in the city’s history of organised crime and law enforcement, the award-winning Mob Museum is filled with interactive exhibits, one-of-a-kind artefacts and theatre presentations showcasing both sides of this notorious battle. Just outside Vegas, the Neon Museum is the final resting place of over 150 retired signs that once adorned hotel façades. This neon graveyard is strangely compelling – part Disney, but also symbolic of the city’s ‘golden days’.

Other Attractions

For 360-degree views of city and desert, head to the observation deck of the Stratosphere, the tallest building around, then descend by means of X-Scream, a hair-raising, heart-pumping ride. Satisfy sweet cravings in M&M World, a four-storey dollop of chocolate heaven and rainbow-coloured candy, with life-size M&M characters and family entertainment, book a guided tour of Hoover Dam, a colossal feat of engineering and National Historic Landmark, an easy outing from Vegas. Alternatively, head to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area or Mount Charleston for off-road adventures and outdoor pursuits, perfect places to burn off any hedonistic excesses and learn about Nevada's unique flora and fauna.
