International Women's Day: Three Women Who Inspire Us From The World Of Luxury Travel

"Make certain that what we do matters, make certain you care and are passionate about what you are involved in." - Marteyne van Well

Celebrated annually around the world on the 8th of March, International Women's day celebrates the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women around the world and provides the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate some of the amazing and inspiring women in the travel industry. There are countless women working throughout all different sections of the luxury travel industry, giving us the chance to honour some of the most remarkable women in the travel industry.

Kelly Hoppen, MBE

Renowned interior designer, successful businesswoman, and Dragon's Den regular, Kelly Hoppen has designed some seriously stylish interiors throughout her long career. One that has to be mentioned is the chic and fashionable interiors of Celebrity Edge from Celebrity Cruises. From the all-new Edge Villas, which feature two-levels of sumptuous living areas, to The Retreat, a sun-soaked pool area exclusive for suite-class guests, the entire ship must be seen to be appreciated. Throughout the design process, Kelly's eye for immaculate interiors led the way. The ship oozes timeless luxury and boasts neutral colours and calming spaces, ideal for any setting around the world.

Marteyne van Well

Having worked at Six Senses for over a decade, there really isn't much Marteyne van Well doesn't know about keeping guests and staff happy. Driven by a strong commitment to sustainability, Marteyne champions the need for marine wildlife protection, sustainable fishing practices, and clean oceans throughout her work as General Manager at Six Senses Laamu, and understands that a modern-day luxury holiday not only includes stunning locations and brilliant facilities, but also encompasses social responsibility and authenticity. Marteyne's passion for sustainability and preservation is reflected outside of her work too, as she is also a certified rescue diver, and a keen underwater photographer and videographer.

Olga Polizzi CBE

A renowned British hotelier and interior designer, Olga Polizzi helped establish Rocco Forte Hotels with her brother, Sir Rocco Forte, in 1996. Known for her distinct style which incorporates the unique identities and character of each of the hotel's spectacular locations throughout the interior design, Olga has become synonymous with the Rocco Forte brand. A former Westminster City Council councillor, representing Lancaster Gate ward for the Conservative Party, Olga also owns her own portfolio of independently owned hotels - Hotel Tresanton in Cornwall and Hotel Endsleigh in Devon, and is the Director of Design for Rocco Forte Hotels. Olga Polizzi is a luxury travel icon and absolutely deserves a spot on our list of inspiring women on International Woman's Day.

Thank you for taking the time to read about just three of the remarkable women within our industry. Through travel, we can make choices which have a positive impact on the people, places and communities that we collectively visit. Let's choose to make a more equal future, together, through travel.
