Boasting a truly picture-perfect setting of glistening lakes and towering, snow-capped mountains, Bariloche is a patch of paradise in Patagonia’s Nahuel Huapi National Park. Nestled in the foothills of the Andes, the snow covered slopes offer unrivalled skiing in the winter, whilst various trekking routes and mountain biking tracks provide breathtaking views over the sun-dappled lake in summer.

After soaking up glorious panoramas of the magnificent natural beauty that surrounds you, unwind in the charming Swiss-inspired town centre, boasting traditional Alpine architecture, quaint plazas lined with cafés and a striking Neo-Gothic cathedral. Also home to the Museum of Patagonia, learn a little more about this unique area of Argentina, with exhibitions on the wildlife, landscape and the fascinating indigenous pre-Hispanic inhabitants of the region.

Highlights+

Lakes
A setting unrivalled in its natural beauty and serenity, Bariloche sits on the shore of the Nahuel Huapi lake, in the eponymous national park. Crystal clear and tranquil waters await, offering endless hours of relaxation and plenty of fun. Soak up the glorious mountain scenery, as well as the Argentine sunshine, as you glide across the lake on a luxurious sight-seeing tour, or lie back one of the charming lake-side beaches. For thrills atop the lake, enjoy exhilarating whitewater rafting, kitesurfing or paragliding, or unwind with an afternoon of trout fishing.

Skiing
Nestled in Argentina’s famed Patagonia region, Bariloche is overlooked by the striking Cerro Catedral mountain, named for the Gothic-looking granite spirals that sit atop its peak. As well as the stunning backdrop they provide, these surrounding mountains are also home to an unrivalled and ultra-modern ski resort. With terrain and courses for all levels of ability, you can enjoy Bariloche’s stunning slopes whether an absolute beginner or skiing expert. After hours of fun in the snow, there are plenty of options for an après-ski to rival any other resort!

The Mountains in the Summer
Whilst the skiing in Bariloche is glorious, fun in the mountains doesn’t stop when summer arrives. An unbeatable destination for walkers, the Patagonian mountains boast countless trekking and mountaineering routes, ranging in difficulty level, terrain and height. Expect truly dazzling views as you look for miles over Argentina’s stunning lake district. As well as walking, mountain biking and horse trekking are great ways to explore this area of unrivalled natural beauty.

Switzerland meets Argentina
As well as the stunning mountain peaks and unrivalled skiing, Bariloche’s town centre is charmingly Alpine, boasting traditional stone and wood paneled buildings, quaint breweries and cozy cafes serving indulgent fondues and raclettes. Beyond this, Bariloche is renowned for producing some of Argentina’s best chocolate, easily rivalling that of Switzerland. Countless traditional chocolate shops line the picturesque shopping street, Bartolomé Mitre, alongside patisseries serving an array of delicious sweet treats.

Golf
Golf enthusiasts will be awed as they discover the breathtakingly picturesque eighteen-hole, par 71 golf course at Llao Llao. Tee off with the stunning backdrop of Lake Nauhel Huapi and the Patagonian mountains, as you enjoy a truly unique golfing experience of lush forests and natural obstacles. Perfect your game at the state-of-the-art driving range and two putting greens, or get lost in the pro shop, before tackling the course in utter paradise. For something a little different, why not try your hand at GolfCross: golf with an oval ball and goals instead of holes?
