City Highlights

Porto is a splendid-looking UNESCO World Heritage Site replete with lots to see and do. Its star is most definitely in the ascendency at the moment and it's becoming more and more popular due to its laid-back nature, which blends cosmopolitan and traditional to thrilling effect. The charming Medieval city, on the banks of the Douro River, has plenty of visual appeal and a trendy, urban ambience, along with an array of bars, restaurants and pavement cafes that will keep everyone fortified during the trip. Arts and culture play a central role in Porto's make-up, leaving visitors with decisions to make on where they want to focus their attention - be it museums, art galleries, historic buildings and no fewer than six bridges spanning the Douro River, including the two-storey Maria Pia Bridge, built by a protege of Eiffel, creator of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Dining & Gourmet

The Yeatman's gastronomic restaurant offers a truly remarkable dining experience - including amazing panoramic scenery of the River Duoro and Porto, the historic centre - and boasts a prestigious two Michelin Stars in the 2017 edition of the famous guide. Let the well-established chef, Ricardo Costa, take you on a culinary journey, ripe with traditional Portuguese flavours and regional specialities, all presented with contemporary flair. For a relaxed setting, visit the Orangerie, which serves an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner, along with a delicious children's menu.

Culture & History

Porto is a UNESCO World Heritage city steeped in fascinating history, dating back to the 1st century BC, when it fell under Roman rule and became an important trading link between Lisbon and Braga. At the time, the city was known as Cale (or Port of Cale), laying the foundations for the name, 'Portugal'. By the 1700s, wine produced in Douro Valley provided a crucial role in the economy and contributed to the growth of Porto, along with establishing good relations with the English. By 1717, the first trading post for Port wine was operating from Porto, with labels such as Taylor's and Graham's still popular brands to this day.

Family

The Yeatman welcomes younger guest with open arms and aims to deliver a rewarding and memorable stay. The facilities available will provide a joyous occasion for all the family, as you dive into the Decanter Pool and look through the underwater port holes, or go on a hunt in the gardens and discover the olive tree that is over 1350 years old. Drop your children off at The Kids Club, which has an enclosed space which is dedicated to keeping your children entertained with a whole range of activities (children aged 3 to 16 years old) whilst the parents relax.

Hotel Experiences

The Yeatman has dedicated experiences for wine-lovers who have a desire to explore the depth and variety of Portuguese wines. Boasting cellars stocked with one of the most comprehensive collections of Portuguese wines, the hotel has established a unique partnership with Portugal's finest producers, who participate in The Yeatman's wine-tasting programmes, seminars and wine dinners, along with making a contribution to the wine-themed guest accommodation. Explore Portugal's wines in further detail with a Masterclass of five to six or ten to twelve specially selected wines or experience an exclusive wine flight tasting at Dick's Bar, with exquisite wines from The Yeatman's award-winning cellar.

Spa & Wellness

The Yeatman has strong associations with wine, and this even extends to its award-winning spa, Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa, an oasis of calm, wellness and relaxation in the heart of the hotel. Wonderfully placed to offer fantastic panoramic views of Porto, the spa has a Roman bath and hammam, along with an indoor infinity-edge pool that offers incredible elevated views of Porto through its floor-to-ceiling windows. Treatments are based on natural ingredients drawn from wine and the vineyards and have great antioxidant properties - there are even signature wine barrel therapies. Wellness and fitness activities provide additional relaxation for guests, including aqua fitness classes in the pool, Pilates and yoga. A personal trainer is also available, if required.
