This boutique hotel is located on Alleynes Bay which is one of my favourite − and definitely one of the best − beaches in Barbados. Last year it went through a huge refurbishment and when it reopened in November I couldn’t wait to see what had been done. My visit certainly lived up to my expectations. The Lone Star is simply amazing. With just six beautifully decorated suites, all named after authentic luxury American motorcars; Corvette, Shelby, Buick, Studebaker, Cadillac and Lincoln, and all with either a Caribbean Sea or garden view, it promises every guest a personal haven of tranquillity.
I stayed in the Cadillac Suite, which is a gorgeous one-bedroom penthouse, with a huge four-poster bed, his and hers dressing area, a separate lounge with en suite powder room and a huge bathroom with free-standing bath tub, walk-in shower and marble double vanity. The large terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or sundowners before dinner, with daybeds, a dining area and ceiling fans to keep you cool in the afternoon heat. It’s also very private; you can pull the white linen curtains to on your terrace, yet still enjoy the views and sounds of the ocean. If you are staying with a family, The Beach House, which is made up of the Lincoln, Corvette or Shelby Suites, offers the most amazing ocean views from the large patio and the lounge. It also features a beautiful private dining gazebo, perfect for family breakfasts and long lunches, as well as direct access to the beach.
It’s the little touches that make The Lone Star extra special. You’ll find complimentary house rum punch waiting for you on arrival, along with a jar of homemade star-shaped cookies, which are delicious. All your creature comforts will be waiting for you too, including luxurious L’Occitane products in the bathroom, Bose wireless sound docks, flat-screen televisions and Lavazza coffee machines, as well as complimentary non alcoholic beverages in the mini-bar and wi-fi. Breakfast is also included and is a fantastic experience, served either on the boardwalk next to the beach or your private terrace.
Although the hotel does not have a pool, I really didn’t miss it as the warm Caribbean Sea is right in front of the hotel and the team prepares the beach every morning with fresh towels, umbrellas and sun loungers, so that you can chill out to your heart’s content. Private beach showers are also available in the gardens and full beach service is provided for hotel guests, so you can stay out as long as you wish.
If you like staying somewhere a bit different, I whole-heartedly recommend that you try The Lone Star and enjoy the amazing cuisine, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful views and fantastic service that's on offer.
