From glitzy casinos to dazzling shows, we all know that Las Vegas is a feast for the eyes. It’s also, however, a feast of culinary delights, and has become as famous for its army of resident celebrity chefs as it is for its fountains, flashing lights and swanky nightclubs. And nowhere does this city’s passion for gastronomic expertise culminate better than at Vegas Uncork’d by Bon Appétit, one of the United States’ premier food and drink festivals.
Now in its tenth year, this annual gourmet party has become known as one of the city’s biggest and most exclusive celebrations of the glamorous, celebrity-studded food scene of Las Vegas. The glittering highlight of the weekend is held at the magnificent Garden of the Gods pool complex at the legendary Caesar’s Palace, where culinary superstars and their teams of masterchefs put on a show-stealing Grand Tasting Party, featuring a myriad of lavishly prepared meals and indulgent wine and liquor sampling-sessions. With over fifty renowned chefs from across the world pitching up stands to show off their skills and share their latest creations, this year promises to be one of the most impressive yet, with names such as Nobu Matsuhisa, Wolfgang Puck, Gordon Ramsay and Guy Savoy gracing the billing list. The festivities carry on through the night with a decadent rooftop party, a true VIP experience, where guests can sip on speciality cocktails from a private cabana, with panoramic views over the lights of ‘Sin City’ laid out before them.
There is plenty more to get your teeth stuck into across the weekend, too. This year’s special events also boast a stellar four-course steak dinner, accompanied by top-shelf vodka and caviar, held at the Old Homestead Steakhouse, a legacy of the original flagship restaurant in New York City’s Meatpacking District, established in 1868 by the current proprietors’, Marc and Greg Sherry’s, enterprising grandfather. Also on the menu is the spectacular Dinner and a Show with Mr.Chow (a theatrical and exotic dining experience, rich in the traditions of Beijing cuisine), an after-hours sake and sushi-tasting session at the super chic Tao Loft Space and a trendy affair at the Downtown Container Park on Fremont Street, where some of the best local restaurants are set to serve up comforting favourites, including a limited edition burger by Shake Shack and signature dishes by Yardbird Southern Table & Bar, accompanied by live music played into the night.
Experience something new with the Sensory Lunch at Bacchanal Buffet, an unusual culinary adventure which will lead guests, blindfolded, to a private, multi-course lunch, designed to enhance the texture, smell and sounds of the dining experience. If this sounds a little too far out of your comfort zone, you can still spice up your weekend with chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken, the talent behind American television’s popular, ‘Too Hot Tamales’. Take a fun-filled cooking class with the duo as they share their tips and techniques, or join them at Border Grill on Saturday night to learn more about their travels through Mexico over a flavoursome four-course meal, accompanied by an exclusive tasting of limited edition Barrel Select Reposada Tequila, handpicked by Mary Sue and Susan, and unveiled for the first time at Vegas Uncork’d.
If, by the time Sunday rolls around, you still have room left for a bite more, fantastic brunches are on offer to round off the weekend fun. Taste a piece of southern Italy at Rao’s, where the owners, Frank Pellegrino Junior and Frank Pellegrino Senior, share their family recipes for an intimate Italian feast, or, if you are not feeling too worse for wear, get involved in hands-on cocktail demonstrations at one of the world’s most advanced beverage training facilities, Southern Wine & Spirits Cocktail Academy. Here, impressively skilled cocktail maestros give guests an insider’s view of the science of mixology, while top notch food is served by acclaimed chefs, Hubert Keller and Rick Moonen.
With glamour and gastronomy combined, Vegas Uncork’d will take place from 28th April to 1st May 2016. To find out more about this spectacular culinary event, or to book your luxury holiday to Las Vegas, please call our expert USA Travel Consultants on 01244 897 221.
