From the quiet majesty of the Sultan’s Mosquein Kampong Glam, to the colourful buildings of Little India & Chinatown, this culture-infused tour will take you around the island to see the very best of Singapore's historic buildings and architecture.
Along with historic buildings and longstanding monuments, Singapore has become famous for its blossoming modern architecture. Begin at The Fountain of Wealth - recognized since 1998 by the Guinness Book Of World Records as the largest fountain in the world - before heading to the famous Marina Bay district, where you'll discover more about the complex architecture of Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Following lunch, visit Gardens by the Bay and explore the Cloud Forest and Flower Dome, before a stop to witness the grandeur of the 18 impressive SuperTrees.
Kris - an asymmetrical dagger with a distinctive blade pattern - have been produced in many regions of Indonesia for centuries. Visit a traditional Kris-maker, who still carries on the traditional rituals which are believed to infuse the blade with mystical powers.
Set out at sunrise to the nearby temple complex of Borobudur, the largest single Buddhist monument in the world. Watch as the early sun rays shine through the intricately placed stone blocks, before stepping back into your vehicle for a transfer to Dieng. Situated at an altitude of almost 2,100 metres, the spectacular Dieng Plateau is home to some of the oldest Hindu temples in Java. The drive to the Dieng Plateau itself is an equally spectacular one, taking you through the tea and tobacco plantations of the Sindoro-Sumbing valley. You'll also stop for lunch at local restaurant to sample a taste of the region.
Where better to begin your day than the incredible Sultan’s Palace in Yogyakarta City? As you pass through the Palace, note the ornate reception halls and large open-air pavilions erected specifically so that the sovereign could listen to private performances of gamelan (traditional ensemble) music. Located in the grounds of the palace, you'll also find the Taman Sari (water castle) which was designed in the 18th century. During the afternoon, your local food guide will guide you around the Sultan City of Yogyakarta to taste an array of much-adored dishes. You'll visit a Bakpia factory to see the secret processes of making the traditional pastries, sample sticky rice rolls and shredded chicken at a small Warung, and watch the preperation of Gudeg (stew) in a wood-fired restaurant in Jalan Wijilan, also nicknamed as 'Gudeg Street'.
Your afternoon tour will begin with a visit to the traditional Bugisan Village, just 2km from the famous Hindu Temples of Prambanan. An Ox-cart will be ready for a ride to the neighbouring village, where you will be invited into a traditional home for a welcome drink and some light snacks. You will visit a local home-industry and learn how the traditional Javanese cracker “Emping” is made, before heading to the house of the Jamu maker, a traditional herbal medicine. Next, ride to the 9th century Hindu temple compound of Prambanan, recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the sun sets, savour dinner in a local restaurant before proceeding to an open-air theatre to watch the epic love story of the Ramayana ballet.
Overlooking the Ayung River in Mambal between Seminyak and Ubud, you'll be treated to a sublimely picturesque High Tea experience. Commence with a flower footbath on the adjacent riverbank before unwinding with a full body massage. Following this indulgent introduction, you will savour a serving of hors d'oeuvres, sweets and locally sourced teas, with stunning views across a lush river gorge.
Your first stop on this culture-packed tour will be Gunung Kawi, a Hindu temple complex in extremely scenic surroundings. Once you've explored the rock-cut shrines and followed the footpath to the rice fields, continue to the Tirta Empul Temple, where many Balinese Hindus come to wash away bad spirits in the holy water. Your journey will continue to the village of Kintamani, which boasts breathtaking views of Mount Batur on a clear day. Savour a buffet lunch in a local restaurant overlooking a volcano, before setting off on your return journey. On the way back, stop at Goa Gajah - or the Elephant Cave - to admire the intricate and interesting carvings.
Meet your local guide, Gusde, in the village of Mas, where you'll be welcomed into their traditional Balinese home. Gusde’s father is a leading exporter of Balinese woodcarvings, and you will work with a local wood-carver to learn the local methods, before making your very own wooden turtle should you feel confident enough! Later, assist the family in preparing typical Balinese dishes before sitting down to enjoy homecooked lunch, before visiting an authentic Balinese compound to receive a purifying Balinese Blessing by a priest, followed by meeting an highly respected astrologer, who will tell you your destiny by using ancient methods, translated by your local guide.
Following breakfast in Kintamani, climb on your bicycle and make your way downhill through the colourful tapestry that is the Balinese countryside. You will do several stops en route, taking in key sights and interesting highlights. You will pass scenic traditional Balinese villages and housing compounds, as well as lovely local temples. Say hello to the local children and villagers and revel in a life unchanged for centuries. Return via the amazing rice terraces of Tegalalang and visit the town’s art market, before winding your way back to Ubud for a three-course Indonesian feast. You'll then have the chance to explore Ubud on foot, including a light trek across the river valley of Tukad Wos, before continuing north to the Campuhan ridge, arguably the finest trek in Ubud with awe-inspiring views!
Take off your sandals and head to the beach to board the ‘Naga Mesem’ (Smiling Sea Dragon). This wooden boat is inspired by romantic folklore legend between the beautiful goddess of the peak of Rinjani Mountain and the son of the Sea Dragon! Set sail from Sire Beach towards Gili Air, the smallest of the three Gili Islands. Sit back, relax and soak up stunning views as you pass by both Gili Air and Gili Meno, before the sun goes down. With a chilled glass of Prosecco in hand and delicious canapés, toast to the end of your cruise journey in style!
