At Vilshofen, Germany, you will meet your fellow passengers with a Welcome Reception and Dinner onboard your luxurious AMAWaterways river cruise ship.

The next morning, enjoy a little free time to explore the beautiful old town before departing for your next stop.

Sail to Passau

Located on the German border with Austria, arrive at the beautiful ancient city of Passau. This afternoon, you will enjoy a walking tour of this stunning two-thousand year-old city, during which you can marvel at the Gothic and Baroque architecture, wander down cobble stone streets and across busty squares and see St Stephen’s Cathedral, dating back to 1688.

Sail to Linz

Arrive in Austria’s city of Linz in the morning, giving you plenty of time for a walking tour of the country’s second largest city, or a guided bike ride around the Old City Centre, along the Danube River and past the striking Ars Electronica Center. Later in the afternoon, guests can choose from three excursions to UNESCO World Heritage Sites: to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, for a walking tour of the area made famous by ‘The Sound of Music’; to the medieval hillside Czech town of Cesky Krumlov; or to the scenic Austrian Lake Distric.

Spend the morning sailing to Weissenkirchen

Once you have arrived in Weissenkirchen, there are three options on how to explore Dürnstein, a small Austrian town known for being one of the main wine-producing centres of the region. Today, you may choose to take a walking tour along the town’s cobblestone streets, followed by a visit to the magnificent Benedictine Melk Abbey, one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful monastic sites, housing a number of religious relics and medieval manuscripts. Alternatively, guests can also join a hike up the fortress where Richard the Lionheart was once held for ransom, or enjoy a tasting of the regions beloved apricots.

After returning to the ship for dinner, you will be taken to a local winery to enjoy a wine tasting.

Sail to Vienna

Arrive in the morning at the spectacular Austrian capital city of Vienna, one of the most romantic and visually impressive cities of Europe, known for its artistic and musical heritage.

There are two choices of excursion. The first is an all-encompassing tour of Vienna that covers the majestic Opera House, the former Imperial Palace if the Habsburg Emperors, Parliament, the Town Hall and Vienna University. Afterwards, you will visit Vienna’s historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Graben and the world famous Spanish Riding School.

Alternatively, more active guests may enjoy a guided bike tour along the Danube and through the beautifully green Donaupark, before heading to Klosterneuburg Monastery or simply exploring the city at your own leisure.

Spend the morning cruising to Bratislava

After a scenic journey along the Danube, you will arrive at the intriguing Slovakian capital city of Bratislava. There are another three options of excursions to help you enjoy this fantastic part of Europe, the first of which is a walking tour that includes the Old Town Hall, Mirbach Palace and St. Martin’s Cathedral. Food and wine fans will love the second option; a tasting session with sparkling wine and a cooking lesson in how to prepare stuffed potato ravioli. Alternatively, you may wish to join a hike up to Bratislava Castle, which includes a visit to the Castle Upper Terrace and Court of Honour. For the remainder of the day, you are free to enjoy the city at leisure.

Sail to Budapest

Your final stop on your cruise is Budapest, Hungary’s vibrant capital city. A fascinating mix of old and new, Budapest is full of history and character, and makes a fabulous end to your travels.

While here, you will enjoy a morning excursion across the city, from the famed Heroes Square to Castle Hill, home to Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and spectacular views of the Danube.
