Enchanting rainforests rich with jungle wildlife, a fascinating blend of cultures and age-old tribal traditions, cities with booming arts scenes and diverse culinary delights, breathtaking beaches and sheltered coral reefs offering unrivalled snorkelling… welcome to Borneo. Your 13-night adventure begins in the sophisticated city of Kuching, before heading to the 740-acre Semenggoh Nature Reserve, home to several endangered orangutans and a variety of birds and exotic flora. From here, reach the Batang Ai National Park by longtail boat, meeting native people and sampling their traditional cuisine, followed by two nights amid the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gunung Mulu National Park, home to 17 vegetation zones, over 3,500 species of plants and striking limestone landscapes. Next, journey along the Kinabatangan River to Abai, taking an early morning river trip to the Pitas oxbow lake to observe the glorious wildlife. More wildlife encounters and stunning scenery awaits in the immense Danum Valley Conservation Area, before your Borneo experience ends on the white sands of the eco-focused and utterly beautiful Gaya Island Resort.

Once you have checked in at Hilton Kuching, the rest of your first day can be spent at your leisure. The following morning, enjoy an early breakfast before checking out and departing your hotel for the Semenggoh Nature Reserve, where you’ll learn how this 740-acre sanctuary is supporting young orphaned or injured primates, before meeting and feeding the charming orangutans for yourselves.

Kuching to Batang Ai

Depart by private car for Batang Ai. Break up the four-hour journey with a stop at a native market in Serian, a visit to a pepper plantation and lunch in the small Chinese village of Lachau. The final portion of your journey will take you by ferry across Batang Ai lake.

Following your first afternoon at leisure, the morning will take you on a visit to the longhouse by traditional Iban longboat. You’ll enjoy a tour and meet the friendly natives and their families, who will also perform their traditional war dance in full ceremonial regalia – you’re always welcome to join in! Then, refuel with a delicious local lunch and their delicacy rice wine, 'Tuak'.

Baitang to Mulu

Take a private car transfer to Kuching International Airport for your flight to Mulu. Upon arrival, take a private car transfer to Mulu Marriott Resort.

After your arrival, you’ll proceed to the national park headquarters for registration and lunch. Continue your day with a 45-minute walk through the limestone forest to Lang’s Cave - which showcases stunning stalagmites and stalactites - followed by the largest cave passage in the world, Deer Cave. Admire the breathtaking view of bats in flight from the observatory platform, before traversing the scenic pathways back to your accommodation.

The next morning, you'll venture out on a 40-minute boat ride (dependent on water levels). Pass by a Penan settlement before proceeding to Wind Cave. Hop ashore and climb to the cave's entrance where you'll discover the mesmerising King's Chamber, before taking a short walk to Clearwater Spring for a picnic lunch and swim in the cool waters. Return to your accommodation for an afternoon at your own leisure, with plenty of activities to relish should you desire.

Mulu to Kota Kinabalu

Take a private car transfer to Mulu Airport for your flight to Kota Kibabalu. Upon arrival, take a private car transfer to Hilton Kota Kinabalu.

Spend the morning at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

Founded in 1964, Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre works hard to rehabilitate orphan orangutans and supports conservation of the animals in the wild. You'll have the opportunity to feed the animals and learn more about the centre's work during your time here. You can also pay a visit to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, which has managed to improve the living conditions of rescued animals, too.

Boat transfer to Abai

From the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, take a boat to Abai Jungle Lodge.

Your afternoon check-in time means you'll arrive just in time for lunch. As night falls, cruise down the river where you'll witness the sparkle of fire flies, or stroll along the nature board walk on a guided nature walk.

The next morning, as you wake to the call of nature, take a trip down the river to the Pitas Oxbow lake to observe the local wildlife, before returning to the lodge for breakfast. You are welcome to sit back and relish the beauty of the lodge for the remainder of the day, before a late afternoon boat trip in search of further wildlife species.

After you've checked in and savoured a light lunch, trek into Borneo's prime rainforest, one of the oldest in the world. Head along the lush trails, swim in the rock pools and relish the bird's-eye view from a canopied suspension bridge. You may also wish to return after dinner back at your accomodation in pursuit of spotting some of the rainforest's larger mammals.

In the morning, head out for a guided bird walk through the spectacular scenery, which will lead you to staggering waterfalls and ancient burial sites, with your expert guide always on-hand to answer questions and share stories.
