Arrive at the beautifully serene Sol y Luna and rest to ensure you acclimatise to the altitude. After a night’s sleep, rise on your first morning for a guided visit to the town and Inca ruins of Ollantaytambo. Next, visit the organic farm at the charming El Albergue hotel, where you will learn how to prepare a Pachamanca, or ‘earth oven’. While your traditional lunch cooks in your creation, explore the rest of the farm before enjoying the fruit of your labour. Finish off your first full day at the town of Chinchero, where the hillside terraces and village boasts magnificent views of the mountains.
On your second day in Sacred Valley, visit the enigmatic Inca terraces of Moray and small colonial village of Maras. Stopping for a picnic lunch, be amazed at the pre-Columbian salt pans before walking down to the Urubamba River and returning to the hotel for a relaxing evening.
On your third day, chose from a range of activities that suit your interests. Adventurous types may wish to head outdoors for a two-hour horse-riding excursion with a world-renowned Peruvian Paso Horse, venturing from the Hacienda Huayoccari to the Vilcanota River through quaint towns. You may also take up stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking across the lake.
For a more cultural option, spend the day with local traditional weavers to learn about their craft, or take a guided visit to Pisac ruins and marketplace, one of the most important Inca sites in the Urubamba Valley.
Return to Sol y Luna for your final night in Sacred Valley.
