Fly to Tanzania

Fly from London to Arusha Airport for your onward flight to Manyara Airstrip, where a guide from The Highlands will await your arrival and take you to camp - don't forget to admire the volcanic scenery!

Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania

Staying at

The Highlands

Your first base on your Tanzania adventure is The Highlands, nestled amid lush forest beside the Olmoti Volcano, just north of the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. Domed tented suites offer the ultimate in luxury camping, complete with wood burning stoves, king beds and bay windows offering spectacular views. On your first full day in camp, it’s an early start (though well worth it) as you head to the Ngorongoro Crater, created from a volcanic eruption some three million years ago. While the landform itself is spectacular, it is also home to a wealth of wildlife – including lion, zebra and black rhino. After a lovely picnic lunch beneath the trees, it’s time to head back to camp. You can simply relax beside the swimming pool or around the fire pit, or you can head out on a guided visit to a local community, learning more about the unique Maasai culture.
The next day, another crater hike awaits, this time the Empakaai crater, home to a lake that is rich with birdlife – including its famed flamingos. After exploring the area and possibly sighting big game on your way back to the vehicle, enjoy lunch back at The Highlands, before a hike through mountain forest along an ancient Maasai cattle trail to the Olmoti Crater. This route is particularly good for spotting birdlife, butterflies and varying vegetation.

Welcome to the Serengeti, perhaps the most well-known park in Tanzania and one of the top wildlife-viewing destinations in the world. Your hideaway here is Sayari Camp, located in the north of the park beside the animal-rich Mara River. Luxury tents with private verandas are joined by an impressive infinity pool and lovely lounge area. Whether you head out as the sun rises with a picnic breakfast, or in the mid-afternoon after a nap on your deck, game drives promise an unforgettable experience with common sightings including lion, cheetah, leopard, wildebeest, elephant, spotted hyena and crocodile.

Jabali Ridge

Your final camp in Tanzania is Jabali Ridge amid the Ruaha National Park, a sprawling wilderness area that is home to super prides of lions, one of Africa’s largest elephant populations and much, much more. Utterly luxurious and sophisticated, Jabali Ridge is perched on a rocky outcrop, overlooking the area’s riverbeds and famed baobab trees. A range of safari options await here. You can head out on walking safaris, getting closer to the wonderful wildlife, or opt for a classic game drive in the morning or afternoon. If you’d rather, your day can be spent making the most of the camp facilities – including a spa and swimming pool – before enjoying a night game drive for a glimpse of Ruaha’s nocturnal animals.
