Arrive at Hotel B and rest after your flight. The next morning, wake up in the bustling capital city of Lima for your first taste of Peru.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, choose from three family-friendly morning activities. Athletic types will love the chance to enjoy one of the world’s premier surfing destinations, with almost 2,500km of coastline to practice on, though the calm waters are ideal for first-timers, too. On the Costa Verde shore, the Latin American Surf School can teach you techniques suited to your level. Animal lovers can visit the Palomino Islands and spot the sea birds or even swim with the sea lions, if they make an appearance – this is best experienced in the warmer summer months of December to March. If your appetite likes to lead your way, the third option is for you: a food tour through the lively local markets, where you can learn about the colourful ingredients that make up the country’s cuisine.

After lunch, it’s time to get to know the city a little better. Depending on your interests, your four-hour guided tour can lead you from the colonial streets to the beautiful cathedral and Casa Aliaga, which is said to be the oldest home on the continent. Alternatively, visit the intriguing ancient site of Huaca Huallamarca or the catacombs of the Convent of San Francisco.

In the evening, allow your concierge to provide recommendations and reservations to one of the acclaimed restaurants in the city.
