Embark your Scenic River Cruise in Budapest

Docked in Budapest, board your Scenic ‘Space-Ship’, aptly named for the generous sizing of the stylishly designed suites that make them the most spacious river cruise cabins in Europe. Spend your first evening settling in, perhaps enjoying your private balcony in privacy or meeting fellow guests at the evening welcome reception.

The next morning, it’s time to explore Budapest, one of the largest cities in the European Union. An architectural treasure trove, notes of the baroque, neo-classical and art nouveau all contribute to the sense of grandeur, while the bullet holes in the buildings from World War I are just one sign of the history this city has seen.

Enjoy a guided tour of the city and be treated to a piano concert or learn about the Jewish heritage of the area with an expert local guide. Alternatively, you can choose to journey out to the riverside town of Szentendre, which is known for its museums, galleries and artists.

Sail to Vienna

After a restful night in your plush Scenic suite, rise the next day and relax in the lounge as you watch the beautiful scenery pass by on your way to the majestic city of Vienna. Worth its weigh in gold for its legacy of art and music, the city itself is Austria’s true masterpiece.

At the spectacular Palais Liechtenstein, admire the architectural opulence as you savour a glass of fine Austrian Sekt wine before enjoying the privilege of a private Viennese evening concert, featuring the music of Strauss and Mozart.

Return to the ship for the night and arise the next morning for more discoveries in Vienna. First, choose between taking a guided tour of the wonderfully Baroque Schönbrunn Palace, one of the most important monuments in the country, or the Belvedere Museum, where you can explore the greatest collection of Austrian art, boasting works by Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh and Max Beckmann. The museum also houses the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt paintings, including The Kiss and Judith.

Later that day, spend your final afternoon in Vienna exploring the magical Christmas markets. A tradition which dates back to the Middle Ages, these festive stalls are some of Europe’s most popular, with a vast array of gifts and tasty treats.

Sail to Melk

Continuing along the Danube’s beautiful Wachau Valley, your next stop is the pretty town of Melk. Known for its splendid 18th Benedictine Abbey, head inside the marvel at the exquisite library and church, adorned with frescoes and baroque artwork. If you are looking to get active, you can chose to embark on a guided bike ride along the river, while wine lovers may opt to join a visit to a local winery for a guided tour and tasting.

Sail to Passau

Cruising out of Austria and into Germany, your next stop is Passau, also known as ‘the Three Rivers City’ due to the two rivers that join the Danube within its perimeters. Located on the banks of the Bavarian region, the old streets are authentically charming and the postcard scenes make a perfect stop on your Christmas cruise.

While here, discover what lies within the medieval Czech town of Cesky Krumlov and its UNESCO World Heritage Old City, or explore the city of Salzburg, known as the birthplace of Mozart and the backdrop for The Sound of Music.

Sail to Regensburg

Located in south-east Germany, Regensburg is one of the largest cities in the State of Bavaria and one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany.

With a beautiful Old Town and Bavarian Forest at its borders, Regensburg offers a rich tapestry of experiences. Discover the magical Christmas markets at Thurn and Taxis Palace, where you will feel like you have stepped into a fairytale as lanterns and candlelight lead the way. Alternatively, you can enjoy a walking tour of Regensburg.

Sail to Nuremburg

After a farewell breakfast, depart your cruise at Nuremburg.
