Itinerary Highlights

This super self-drive itinerary offers an incredibly diverse introduction to the south west regions of the United States and its varied culture and landscapes. With a glamorous start and end to the trip, it allows inquisitive travellers the opportunity to start their journey experiencing the glitzy, fast-paced city life of Las Vegas and end the journey in California, enjoying a relaxing four-night stay in a gorgeous cottage right on one of the west coast's best beaches. In between, travellers will be immersing themselves in the culture of the old wild west and breathtaking landscapes, including the magnificence of the Grand Canyon on an upmarket helicopter tour that includes Champagne and snacks right in the heart of the canyon itself.

This self-drive journey gives you the flexibility to do things at your own pace. There are plenty of opportunities to stop off en route to discover quaint little towns, monuments and national parks, as much of the journey is spent in the magnificent desert terrain of Arizona and south eastern California. Sedona is a peaceful spot in which to enjoy outdoor pursuits, such as hiking and mountain-biking, against a backdrop of striking red rock formations, while Scottsdale is a larger, more sophisticated destination, known for its fabulous golf courses, restaurants, shopping opportunities and art galleries – all with a Mexican twist! Palm Springs, meanwhile, injects a little Old Hollywood glamour to the trip as the one-time leisure escape of the 1950s Hollywood glitterati. It's in the desert, but you're edging ever closer to the west coast of California and those wonderful beaches of San Diego's Coronado Island. Spend the remainder of your luxury holiday enjoying the cosmopolitan – quintessentially Californian – ambience, along with shopping and sightseeing opportunities, or simply spend the time chilling out on those blissfully warm stretches of beach.

The best time to enjoy Las Vegas and Arizona is the spring months, when the flowers of Sedona are in bloom, or the autumn months. From March - May and September - November temperatures are warm without reaching the scorching heights of summer, which can make walking uncomfortable. While San Diego enjoys a year-round pleasant climate, spring and autumn are also great times to visit, when you can avoid the frequent summer clouds, though there is a higher chance of rain in March.

Upon your arrival in Sedona, you will check-in to the next luxury hotel on your itinerary, Enchantment Resort and Mii Amo Spa, where you will enjoy a two-night stay in a Casita Guest bedroom, enjoying the incredible surroundings of this spectacular location. Devoid of all things glitzy and high-rise, Sedona is a gem of a place and very popular with those who crave outdoor living and activities – particularly mountain-biking and walking. It's also very chilled out and has quite a 'hippy' vibe in places. The landscape is quite different to other areas of Arizona, and, of course, the big draw of this peaceful town is the staggering rock formations that surround it and carry on for miles. Deep red in colour, these huge, wind-sculpted formations are very photogenic and offer an excellent backdrop to enjoy the aforementioned mountain-biking and walking, with super opportunities to take a series of beautiful photographic images, should you wish to; at sunset, it's a truly incredible sight.

Back at the hotel, there are fabulous spa treatments to be enjoyed, which fits perfectly with the relaxed vibe of the town in general. Sedona provides a stark contrast to the glitz of Las Vegas, and if you wish to experience the United States in two very different guises, this itinerary so far will offer you just that.
