Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo
Built in 1873, this is the oldest hotel in Taormina and it certainly is charming. The gardens are stunning and it’s a wonderful place to simply chill out. Jayne says that there is a romantic feel throughout and it would be a great place to escape for a romantic break, honeymoon... or even a proposal! And, the breathtaking views across to Mount Etna never fail to impress. If you want to get a bit closer to Mount Etna, Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo is about a one-hour, fifteen-minute drive away, or the hotel offers a sight-seeing tour that includes local farms and lava caverns, so you can learn a bit more about its place in island life. Just next to the hotel is a magnificent Greek amphitheatre where a host of outdoor shows and concerts, ranging from operas to pop, are held over the summer months. Jayne and Jacquie agree that if you’re looking for a fabulous hotel in a central, busy location, this is hard to beat.
Belmond Villa Sant' Andrea This hotel is just fifteen minutes from Taormina and the resort runs a complimentary shuttle into the city. Jayne and Jacquie say it's a very pretty place with lots of lovely streets and shops, and they enjoyed a lovely lunch in one of the many restaurants. Typical Belmond in style, but more relaxed than Grand Hotel Timeo, it has more of a villa-style feel to it. It's also a good place for family summer holidays as a kids' club for 4 to 12-year-olds is held on the beach. The girls also recommend dining in Oliver Restaurant where the service was exceptional.
Rocco Forte Verdura Golf & Spa Resort
This resort is a great option if you’re looking for lots of things to do. It's set away on its own, so it’s perhaps not for you if you’re looking for somewhere with lots of life, but there is more than enough to keep you entertained at the resort. Sporting activities include golf, tennis, water sports and cycling, as well as fitness classes. There is also a fabulous spa and a children’s club with activities for teens too, not to mention a lovely stretch of golden beach. Jayne and Jacquie even had the opportunity to take part in a pastry making class! Should you wish the explore further afield, there are places of interest a short drive away including thermal baths open during the summer, Grecian temples, and La Planeta winery that Jayne and Jacquie highly recommend visiting. They enjoyed a very pleasant tour of the vineyards, some wine-tasting and a freshly cooked lunch that they ate al fresco with another glass of vino!
