The magnificently tropical world of the Caribbean islands is a place that lies very close to the heart of Elegant Resorts. It is for this reason that we love to recommend our Caribbean portfolio to families. We pride ourselves on making luxury travel blissfully simple for families, and our expert Travel Consultants and concierge service is dedicated to pulling out all the stops to ensure every holiday is not only snag-free, but stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Whether you choose to make the most of our partnership with First Luggage, a white-glove luggage transportation service that will collect your suitcases (no doubt weighed down with toys and books that simply could not be left behind!) straight from your door, or wish to take it easy with our complimentary lounge passes at all UK airports, allowing an often much-needed stress-free break before boarding as little ones amuse themselves with facilities on-hand, your travel arrangements will be expertly orchestrated to help ensure that the chances of any toddler tantrums remains at a firm zero-percent!
Once you arrive at your destination, the Caribbean dream is about to begin. Nevertheless, our team will be on-hand to arrange anything that meets your clan’s fancy, whether that is a picnic on the beach or a catamaran cruise to explore the horizon, or simply to share their insider knowledge of the best ways to experience each unique island. With regular flights at comfortable times throughout the week, getting across the Atlantic to the Caribbean couldn’t be easier. And, during summer, the islands experience their ‘off-peak’ period, meaning prices are lower and beaches are less crowded, making this a very wise pick for summer holidays with the family. Whether you want to hit the sea with sailing and snorkelling, embrace the beaches or be immersed in the tropical culture, we have collected together some of our top recommendations of things to do and places to stay for an outstanding luxury family holiday to the Caribbean this summer...
A myriad of Bajan delights awaits families on the platinum sands of one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious islands – Barbados. A catamaran cruise out into the sparkling ocean is a much-loved highlight, where swimming with friendly resident Sea Turtles will make many cherished memories. If a shower hits, the brilliant Limegrove cinema is a godsend, where the odd rainy afternoon needn’t be wasted when watching a film in the boutique theatre – just push a button on your comfortable lounge seat, and a server will be summoned to bring food and drink straight to your side table! Summer is also when the colourful Crop Over Festival takes place, when streets are filled with the sounds of euphoric calypso music, brightly adorned carnival floats and lively parties – it’s a must-see, and everyone is welcome to get involved!
The vibrant culture and love affair with the ocean makes Antigua a wonderful option for families looking for a bit of action. Stingray City offers the chance to get up close to the sea’s Southern Rays – they might look intimidating, but these graceful sea creatures are known as the ‘puppy dogs of the sea’ for their amiable character! For a more challenging trial, try braving the zip-line courses for a thrilling ride across the lush rainforest treetops, or take it easy by staying on a private island resort, where you can put your mind at ease while the children tear about in total safety.
3. Petit St Vincent
The Caribbean is brilliant for diving and snorkelling, as the sea bed is truly laden with old ship wrecks, thriving reefs and intrepid sea critters. Budding sea explorers can feed their curiosity with Jean-Michael Cousteau’s Dive Centre, located on the private island of Petit St Vincent. Son of the renowned Jacques Cousteau, Jean-Michael set up the centre to encourage all levels of ability to learn more about the Caribbean’s sub-aquatic world of wonders, and children aged 8 years and older can join in with introductory courses in snorkelling and scuba diving.
4. St Lucia
Families can, literally, enjoy the sweet life at St Lucia, home to the cocoa plantation of upmarket chocolatiers, Hotel Chocolat. At the Rabot Estate, tour the cocoa groves, cut down your own cocoa pod and create your own handmade chocolate bar! The swathes of luscious rainforest are just as tempting, and offer plenty to do beyond the beautiful beaches. You’ll soon start to channel the Swiss Family Robinson, as you explore plunging valleys, experience the world’s only drive-in volcano and bask in the glory of reaching the summit of the iconic Piton peaks.
There is no better way to experience the evocative flavours and fragrances of the Caribbean than on the affable island of Grenada. Famous worldwide for its production of nutmeg, touring the island’s spice plantations is an intriguing way for all ages to immerse themselves in the history and culture of Grenada. Drive through thriving fields of nutmeg groves, and discover how these hardy, egg-shaped seeds are transformed into powdery spices and herbal teas with first-hand demonstrations, and the whole family will be inspired to hit the kitchen with their new-found knowledge when back home!
The colours, characters and rhythms of Jamaica have given it a reputation of being the island of good times for all, and families are no exception. Teenagers will be in their element here, as they soak up the cool vibes of Rastafarian culture – take them to the Bob Marley Museum if music is their current passion! Dunns River Falls is one of the treasures of the island; famously featured in the James Bond film, ‘Dr. No’, this stunning rainforest waterfall has a six-hundred foot climb to challenge daring adventurers, along with the opportunity to take on a meandering – or adrenaline-pumping! – river tube ride down the rushing rapids.
Bermuda may still be a mystery to some, but for those who have already discovered the allure of the pink-tinged beaches and glimmering waters, it will come as no surprise that excitement has been building around this distinctive little island since the America’s Cup announced its 2017 contest will be held off its shores. The long-established Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club is also based on the island, and offers children as young as five years of age the chance to follow in Ben Ainslie’s footsteps with sailing lessons for the whole family to enjoy together, with programmes held throughout the summer accredited by the Royal Yacht Association and under the guidance of certified US sailing instructors.
9. British Virgin Islands
A trove of fifty idyllic islands, the British Virgin Islands may be small, but they are ideal for families looking for a little more space. Boasting the utmost in luxury, a number of private islands offer indulgent family escapes, where children are free to roam hundreds of miles worth of safe and clean beaches with no threat from passing cars. This is also a great place to take over your own private luxury villa, where our concierge service can ensure any supplies you may require are ready and waiting for you, while children big and small can make all the noise they like, without jeopardising the neighbours’ peace! If you’re really looking to blow all other summer holidays out of the water, charter a luxury vessel before settling into your land accommodation – a fabulous way to explore the many secluded beaches and let off steam with an array of watersports, even the of pickiest children are bound to be impressed!
