We asked one of our well-travelled Travel Consultants, Dale Harris, about some of the best things to do on a luxury holiday to Mauritius . Here's what he had to say.
One of Mauritius’ most popular attractions is its Botanical Gardens. In particular, the Pamplemousses Garden, which is also known as the SSR Botanical Garden and is famed for being the oldest of the gardens in the Southern Hemisphere, dating all the way back to 1767. The perfect place for a leisurely day out, their beauty and the surrounding nature is sure to leave you in a state of awe. Wander through the thirty-seven hectares of unspoilt greenery, discovering huge water lilies and up to eighty-five varieties of palms, while the gentle aroma of the spice garden casts an enchanted ambience that will entice your senses.
For a fantastic family day out, head to La Vanille Crocodile Park where you’ll be able to experience the wonders and diversity of the Mauritian wildlife, passing crocodiles lazing in the warmth of the sun, giant tortoises, birds, and more. There’s also the opportunity to visit a fascinating insect museum, and you can choose to be accompanied by a Guide if you wish.
The Black River Gorges National Park, in the south west of Mauritius, stretches across 6,574 hilly, green hectares and showcases the island's beautiful unspoilt vegetation. You can even head up to the Black River Peak, the highest point of the island, offering the chance for visitors to get the most extraordinary views.
The Isle Aux Cerfs are the place to go for some of the best of Mauritius’ brilliantly blue waters and silky white sands. A must if you want to chill out and revel in the paradise-like aspect of the island. Try out water sports, grab a bite to eat or just read a good book beside the shore.
Centre Equestre De Riambel presents a wonderfully unique and romantic horse-riding tour along one of the island's protected and undisturbed beaches. You can ride alongside the amber glow of the sunset and never-ending horizon, feeling completely free. Any level of rider is welcome and Guides are on-hand to assist beginners if required.
