Having recently been added back into our portfolio of luxury travel destinations, I was excited to get packing and head out to Turkey to be one of the first to get stuck in to this diverse destination. And what better place to be receive a warm Turkish welcome than at the wonderful Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum!Enquire Now
Set in a land said to be favoured by Egyptian ruler, Cleopatra, this luxurious resort is truly fit for a queen. Opened just four years ago, the retreat, along the temptingly named Paradise Bay, is one of the best places to stay in Turkey, where you can enjoy the beautiful sands, plus the buzzing attractions of Bodrum Marina, which is just an easy twenty-minute drive away.
Read on to discover some of the personal highlights of my time at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum and find out why you should stay at this luxurious resort on your next luxury holiday to Turkey.
One of the most impressive things about Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum is the incredibly spacious guestrooms and suites – at 72m2, even the entry level rooms are among some of the largest I have seen in Europe! For even more space to sprawl out, the Mandarin Junior Suite with Private Pool features a 94m2 open-plan layout, plus an outdoor plunge pool on its private terrace, boasting wonderful sea views. If you are travelling with a large group, you may want to take a look at the luxurious selection of villas, which feature up to seven bedrooms and fully-equipped kitchenettes; the Oriental Villa even boasts its own sauna and steam rooms.
Brilliant Beach Location
Paradise Bay is one of the best places for a luxury beach holiday to Turkey. Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum boasts two beautiful private sandy beaches, where you can relax or get active; the Water Sports Centre offers fun activities, such as parasailing, fishing, wakeboarding, stand-up paddle boarding and jet ski rental. It’s also a great place for scuba-diving, with three underwater wrecks to explore, plus fascinating archaeological pieces lying on the seabed.
If you would rather keep to dry land, Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum also boasts a number of private beach cabanas, which are perfect for a lazy day by the sea. When you get hungry, or fancy cooling off with a drink, you won’t have to go far for refreshments – the chic Blue Beach Club & Bar is on hand, with treats such as pizza, homemade ice-cream and zesty cocktails to keep you happy, plus chill-out tunes to kick back to as you sip and savour.
Tuck-in to Turkey
There is a tantalising selection of restaurants and bars to dine and unwind at during your stay at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum. I dined at Assaggio, which sits serenely on its stilts, hovering over the water, making for an ambient, lantern-lit atmosphere. Perfect for romantic moments, you can enjoy a taste of Italy with tasty pastas, seafood and pizzas served with Mediterranean flair. I also got the chance to taste the food at Bodrum Balıkçısı, which mimics a simple and authentic Turkish restaurant with its relaxed atmosphere, idyllic sea views and fantastically fresh fish and vegetables. Try the traditional custom of forgoing the menu and choosing your mezi and grilled fish straight from the counter. And, don’t forget to take a sip of their beloved Raki!
Must-Do Boat Trips
A boat trip is one of the most popular things to do in Turkey. Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum offers a fantastic full or half-day boat trip around the picturesque coastline in a traditional Turkish Gulet. With the option of an on-board lunch or ‘fruit and fizz’, this makes for a fabulous day out for families or couples looking to take it easy and relax in the beautiful Bodrum sunshine.
A Sprawling Spa
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum really will blow you away. Spread over three floors and 2,700m2, you simply must try a treatment in one of the outdoor cabanas, with views over the Aegean Sea. The aroma-infused treatments will really awaken your senses, while a couple of hours spent in the hammam, enjoying an olive seed body scrub and soothing head massage, will leave you feeling royally pampered. The extensive menu is a dream for spa-lovers, while yoga, Pilates and meditation sessions promise to leave you feeling rejuvenated.
