When Tricia Dunne, our Product Executive for Europe, felt the need for some divine intervention in her life, a couple of nights at the luxury Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa was all it took before she was feeling like she’d died and gone to heaven! A lovingly restored 17th century monastery reincarnated into a stunning boutique hotel, the building echoes reminders of its former life at every turn. Guests are greeted at the gateway entrance to the sound of the original bell and nuns’ rosary cupboards that have been turned into mini-bars are placed in every room; Tricia says you’ll even spot the odd confessional box or two! The attention to detail is superb and old and new marry to create a mellow, romantic atmosphere – the perfect place to unwind.
Even though the hotel has stuck to the original blueprint, it feels very luxurious and each of the twenty rooms and suites have the most amazing views over the Amalfi Coast’s Bay of Salerno – and some have their own private terrace to enjoy them from. Step outside into the wonderful gardens that brim with edible plants, and the smell of lemons and herbs – in the herb garden that was restored by the Vatican's Gardener – hits you almost straight away. It’s a sheer pleasure, and needless to say, Tricia had high hopes for flavoursome, fresh cuisine and boy did the food live up to her expectations. If ingredients aren’t selected from the hotel’s grounds they are purchased locally, so more often than not they are on the plate within a few hours of being plucked from the sea or pulled from the ground. So inpired by Chef Christoph Bob’s creations was she, that Tricia’s been shopping in the organic Italian food aisle of her local supermarket ever since she’s been back!
Before heading home, Tricia was treated to a Candle Massage in the beautiful spa, and also spent some time relaxing by the infinity pool which really is out of this world. Its beach-style layout, choice of seating – including love seats and cabanas – the spectacular views in every direction and thoughtful touches including beach towels, sarongs and sun tan lotion, make guests feel very cared for. We think it’s safe to say that Tricia feels truly blessed to have experienced what many hedonists can only dream of!
