Journey Highlights

Summer is a wonderful time to visit Iceland due to the balmy nights, radiant skies and stunning natural beauty. Whilst more often a destination associated with thrilling winter escapes, Iceland is very much a year-round destination and its summer enables visitors to explore the remarkable landscape with greater ease and offers a completely different perspective. This six-night privately guided summer tour, is a rare opportunity to experience the exceptional attractions of this pristine wilderness and to gain a private window through this largely undiscovered landscape through the eyes of an informed local.

Adventurous families, with a love of the outdoors, will revel in the unique attractions, raw beauty and pristine scenery of Iceland. From the cultural sites of the coastal capital of Reykjavik to the Geysir thermal area and famous sprouting Strokkur spring, to the spectacular 150-foot Golden Falls waterfall and UNESCO-World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park, there is an abundance of breathtaking scenery for all the family to share. Children will especially enjoy the trip to Slakki Zoo, the superjeep experience and a boat trip to see the marine-life of the Westman Islands and nearby Saeheimar Aquarium. Add to this, the sensational glaciers, valleys, birch woods and astounding volcanic landscape of the South Highlands and families will have extraodinary memories to last a lifetime. As travel bucket-lists go, this Iceland family itinerary includes whale watching, horseback riding, rib boat riding and a superjeep tour — not to mention bathing within the iconin Blue Lagoon!

Escape to the top of the world, to a seaside town at the edge of the Arctic Circle. To a capital city that offers culture, music, art and eye-popping scenery. The brightly coloured roofs of Reykjavik’s concrete buildings put a smile on everyone’s face. Just like blocks of Lego, everything’s shipshape and orderly. Landmarks include Hallgrímskirkja Church and Harpa Concert Hall, as well as an unusual steel sculpture called ‘Sun Voyager’ and Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower. Reykjavik’s social scene is hot, with groovy places to drink coffee, dance the night away and dine on new Nordic cuisine – think top-quality seafood, lamb and wild game.

Day 1
Arrive and settle into your hotel, and two Superior Rooms, spending the evening at leisure.

Day 2
During your visit, your private driver will take you on a city tour of Reykjavic and will point out the main sites. Why not see the House of Parliament, Reykjavik Cathedral, striking Harpa concert Hall, located close to the harbour, or the Hallgrimskirkja church that looks down over the city. At 75-metres high, visitors are afforded a wonderful vista of the city below. For wildlife enthusiasts and families, there are around 20 species of whales in the ocean around Iceland. Why not set sail from Reykjavic's harbour for some thrilling whale watching in summer?

Highlights

Experience the culture and unique sites of Iceland's capital Reykjavik. With its striking architecture, fascinating museums and Viking past, it's a small coastal city with plenty of colour and a friendly atmosphere. From coffee houses to whale watching, Reykjavik has plenty to interest all ages.

Private car transfer to the iconic Golden Circle area

Day 3

Enjoy a private tour in a luxury vehicle to Iceland's main attraction, the Golden Circle. Combining powerful geysers, magnificent waterfalls and dramatic landscapes, families will be awe-inspired by the scenery of Thingvellir National Park — a geological phenomenon standing on two tectonic plates that are gradually moving away from each other. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this area is filled with natural wonders, including the nearby Geysir area. Home to a number of hot sprouting geysers, the most famous and energetic one being Strokkur (it sprouts every few minutes and reaches a height of 40-metres). Another incredible sight is Iceland's most famous Gullfoss Waterfall which plummets 32-metres in two stages directly to the canyon below. The water comes from the second biggest glacier in Iceland — the Langjokull glacier. As a relaxing finale for the day, families will enjoy visiting the nearby Slakki Zoo, located close to Reykholt, where youngsters can pet and feed Icelandic farm animals such as goats, lambs, rabbits and more.

+

Spend three nights at the fully-staffed Private Holar Lodge — an ideal location for accessing the wondrous local sights.

After a busy day exporing, retreat to the comfort, and savour the unique charm, of Private Holar Lodge. Far from the hustle and bustle of city life, this lovely lodge is nestled within the seemingly boundless landscape of the Icelandic highlights. South Shore

+

Day 4

Enjoy a private tour to the South Shore, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty. Jaw-dropping waterfalls and black sandy beaches fight for your gaze, whilst Icelandic horses roam free across the vast and raw landscape. Developed from poines taken to Iceland by Scandinavian settlers in the 9th and 10th centuries, this unique horse breed is bred exclusively and naturally in this isolated part of the far North Atlantic.

Highlights of the area include the powerful Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, who's water flows from the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier. This 60-metre high waterfall has a footpath behind it — perfect for daring families who are happy to get a little wet! The Reynisdrangar area is another highlight with impressive basalt sea stacks in the North-Atlantic Ocean. Local legend says that the stacks originated when two trolls dragged a three-mast ship to land and when daylight brocke, needles of rock were left. Another attraction is the beautiful Skogarfoss Waterfall that thunders down into a small canyon. Again families will enjoy walking all the way up to capture it's full glory.

The Westmann Islands

+

Day 5

The Vestmannaeyjar Islands (or Westmann Islands) are a group of islands just south of Iceland. Formed by submarine volcanic eruptions along a 30-kilometre fissure, the local prople are frequently reminded that they are living on an underwater volcano. Take a Rib boat journey to witness this evolving landscape for yourself, and appreciate the power of the planet. From surrounding islands to caves, cliffs and sea-life families will be spoilt for natural attractions. The island of Heimaey has a rich history with volcanic eruptions, fishing and

With seals, marine-life and Icelandic Puffins to admire, families will love the abundant wildlife along with the opportunity to climb Heimaklettur. Standing at 283-metres above sea level, the views over Heimaey and the surround islands is incredible.
