Escape to the top of the world, to a seaside town at the edge of the Arctic Circle. To a capital city that offers culture, music, art and eye-popping scenery. The brightly coloured roofs of Reykjavik’s concrete buildings put a smile on everyone’s face. Just like blocks of Lego, everything’s shipshape and orderly. Landmarks include Hallgrímskirkja Church and Harpa Concert Hall, as well as an unusual steel sculpture called ‘Sun Voyager’ and Yoko Ono’s Imagine Peace Tower. Reykjavik’s social scene is hot, with groovy places to drink coffee, dance the night away and dine on new Nordic cuisine – think top-quality seafood, lamb and wild game.

Spend the fist night of your journey at the iconic Hotel Borg and check out some of the sights before resting up for your adventure across South Iceland.

Drive the Golden Circle

Check out of your hotel and be picked up for the next part of your journey around the Golden Circle

Golden Circle, Iceland

+

Spend the second day of your journey on a private tour exploring the famed Golden Circle, an action-packed route, looping from Reykjavik around the southern uplands, that combines most of Iceland’s best offerings, including powerful geysers and magnificent waterfalls.

One of the highlights of your day is the wonderful UNESCO World Heritage Site, Thingvellir National Park, which is where one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world was founded in the year 930. It is also home to the largest lake in Iceland and the 'Money Chasm' – people throw coins into this fissure to see the strange reflections they give off from the bottom.

You will also see the Geysir area, where you can witness the display of hot spouting water powerfully jetting up from below the Earth’s surface – the Great Geysir is perhaps most well-known, though Strokkur is the most energetic, shooting out a jet of water up to 40-meters in height every few minutes.

Also on your route is one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls – Gullfoss. Dramatically dropping 32-meters over two levels, it makes for an eye-popping encounter. Finally, you will have the chance to round off the day with an exhilarating snowmobiling adventure across Langjokull glacier. Iceland’s second largest glacier, this is one of the most anticipated activities to boast about on any journey here!

Drive to the South Shore

After spending the day exploring the Golden Circle, you will be driven to the South Shore where you will find your hotel for the next two nights.

Staying at

Skálakot

+

Arrive at Skálakot, a stylish boutique lodge on a friendly family farm, at the end of your second day. Enjoy a night’s sleep before waking up for the third day of your journey, which will be spend exploring the South Shore.

Known for its breathtakingly beautiful landscapes, you will take a private tour across this exceptional part of the country, stopping to admire waterfalls and glaciers. Seljalandsfoss is one of the most memorable displays, dropping 60-meters with pouring waters from the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier, while Skogarfoss waterfall is often claimed to be the most beautiful. You will also see the spectacular basalt sea stacks of Reynisdrangar protruding from the crashing waves from the black volcanic beach.

Finally, you will have the opportunity to embark on an ice walk on Solheimajokull glacier, where you will find some of the most amazing views marked by ice and rock formed by the glacier. The easy walk-on crampons are suitable for almost everyone, so most abilities are catered for.

Return to Skálakot for the night before rising the next morning for the fourth day of your journey. Still along the South Shore area, you will take a private Jeep across Thorsmork Valley. This beautifully rugged landscape is only accessible by mountain vehicle, so prepare for a bumpy ride to Gigjokull glacier and Stakkholtsgja, where you will take a light hike. Finally, you will visit Seljalandsfoss and Gljufrabui waterfalls, the former famous for allowing visitors to walk behind it.
