Venture to Costa Rica's Central Valley to see incredible wildlife and stunning natural scenery. A stay here, is an essential part of any Costa Rica tour. Being elevated and landlocked, this area is far more temperate that the coastal regions, with temperatures around 25 degrees celcius year-round. This makes it an appealing escape for San Jose residents retreating from the city heat. Whilst June to October are the best months to visit here, the ‘green’ season between June and December is the high season for rafting due to sunshine with afternoon showers. Home to 70% of the population, with a mild year-round climate and strikingly beautiful landscape, the Central Valley covers a large portion of the interior of Costa Rica. Blessed with lush green vegetation, the fertile soil is perfect for farming and the many working plantations are based here. For visitors, the attractions of Volcan Irazu and Volcan Poas, the two towering active volcanoes, set within their own national parks, prove the main reason for visiting this region. Whilst the most active volcano in the country, Poas Volcano steams regularly, and visitors can hike to see its bubbling crater, Irazu Volcano is the largest and highest active volcano in Costa Rica. From its summit, visitors can see both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea — on a clear day. Other attractions include the wildlife refuge, diverse birdlife, botanic garden and Forest Biological Reserve. Those visitors seeking culture, can also visit the oldest church still in use in the country – the Iglesia de San Jose Orosi, built in 1734; along with the important pilgrimage town of Cartago, founded in 1563. South of this town is the least visited national park of the nation, the 29,500-acre Cordillera de Talamanca, featuring virgin rainforests and rare Lemur Leaf Frog, plus Three-toed sloth.

Make sure you stop by the courtyard in the evening as the candles are lit to feel the authentic ambience! For a day of adventure, Poás Volcano National Park is nearby with an array of activities, while you can get a taste for Costa Rican coffee at the Britt Coffee Plantation, just a short drive away.
