Shanghai cannot fail to impress, with its sci-fi skyline, luminous skyscrapers, elegant Chinese details and warm hospitality. If travelling to and from the airport, why not take The Maglev Train? It travels thirty kilometres in just seven minutes, at a speed of 431 kilometres an hour; exhilarating and useful when all you want to do is get to your hotel and sleep off the jet-lag. Pudong is the area filled with skyscrapers and the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower, but for the very best views head towards The Jin Mao Tower for cocktails in trendy bars at formidable heights. Observe the tiny dots busying themselves many metres below and watch a cloud or two float by. Not for those with a fear of heights, this is a dizzying, yet incredible experience.
