The Indian Maharaja is a luxury train that escorts guests from Delhi to Mumbai, or the reverse journey, in complete style and comfort. The ambience is relaxed yet sophisticated, as interiors have been inspired by the private carriages of India’s royal families. A host of English-speaking staff, including twenty-four Butlers and expert Guides, will ensure that time spent on the train and sightseeing, is highly memorable. A range of excursions, such as The Taj Mahal and jungle safaris, will enhance your India experience, while on-board, guests have two elegant restaurants to dine in, as well as lounges and a bar. The train has eleven climate-controlled guest coaches, each featuring a lounge with television and panoramic windows. Between them, the coaches house forty-four double/twin cabins, each with en suite facilities, channel music, a telephone, a personal safe and 24-hour valet service. Two of the guest coaches are dedicated to four Presidential Suites, each with a bedroom with en suite facilities, a sitting room with a sofa bed and en suite toilet, a television with DVD player and a telephone.

There are two dining coaches, each with an elegant restaurant serving freshly prepared Indian and European cuisine. The dress code in the restaurants is smart casual but more formal attire is required for special gala dinners. In addition, a bar and lounge coach provides guests with the opportunity to mingle whilst enjoying a range of drinks, including cocktails.

Luxury Family Holidays

Children are welcome, but it is requested that the adult atmosphere in public areas and dining rooms is maintained for the enjoyment of all guests. Extra beds can be provided at an additional charge, and are subject to availability.

Luxury Spa Holidays

The luxury train has a coach that is dedicated to health and incorporates an on-board spa that offers a selection of relaxing therapies, including Ayurvedic massages and beauty treatments. There is also a steam room and a gymnasium.

Luxury Rail Travel

The luxury train operates between Delhi and Mumbai, and back. Below is a sample itinerary of a seven-night Delhi to Mumbai trip:

Wednesday – Delhi
Board the train in the evening and enjoy dinner as the train departs for Agra.

• Thursday – Agra
After breakfast, guests disembark to visit Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal. Lunch is taken at a hotel in the city, before an excursion to Fatehpur Sikri. Re-board the train for Jaipur and enjoy dinner on-board.

Friday – Jaipur
Morning excursion to Amber Fort, Observatory and Hawa Mahal. Lunch at the Jai Mahal Palace hotel. Evening visit to City Palace. Gala Dinner at The Palace. The train departs for Sawai Madhopur that night.

• Saturday – Sawai Madhopur
After an early breakfast you will embark on a jungle safari by canter. Lunch is enjoyed on-board, before heading out for an afternoon safari. High tea is taken at The Taj Lodge. Dinner is served on-board the train as it leaves for Udaipur.

• Sunday – Udaipur
Morning of sightseeing in Udaipur city, boat trip on Lake Pichola (subject to water levels). Return to the train for lunch and then spend the remainder of the day at leisure. The train leaves for Aurangabad in the afternoon.

Monday – Aurangabad
After breakfast, the morning can be spent at leisure, before an early lunch either on-board the train or taken as a packed lunch. You will be driven to Ellora and enjoy a trip to the Ellora Caves, before driving back to Jalgaon to board the train for dinner.

• Tuesday – Aurangabad
Morning excursion to Ajanta Caves, lunch on-board the train and the rest of the day to be spent relaxing on the train as it leaves for Mumbai. Dinner on-board.

• Wednesday – Mumbai
Depart from the train at Mumbai, where your train journey concludes.
