Waking up to the sun rise over Karoo with a personal Butler pouring fresh coffee and the scenery dancing past at a leisurely pace, has to be one of the most idyllic ways to discover South Africa. The Blue Train provides just that; accompanied with high levels of service, exceptional suite facilities and an exquisite menu created by the very best Chefs. With a clientele that ranges from kings to presidents, including Nelson Mandela, it is little surprise that on-board facilities are first-class. Suites are spacious and boast underfloor heating and climate-control, while the furnishings are decadent and elegant. There are two Blue Trains in the fleet, carrying fifty-eight and seventy-four passengers, respectively. Travelling between Cape Town and Pretoria (and vice-versa) both trains have diesel-powered generators and a superb driver’s-view camera which broadcasts front-view scenery in the Club Car and on the in-room televisions.
