The Palace was built between 1928 and 1943 for H.H. Maharaja Umaid Singh ji, grandfather of the present Maharaja, to symbolise a new Jodhpur and to give employment to the local people during a time of great drought and famine. Principle residence of the Jodhpur royal family, and one of the world's largest private residences, the Palace is a magnificent golden hued desert sandstone monument set amidst acres of verdant gardens. Guests are escorted to their accommodation by the Royal Butler, who will also be happy to offer a fascinating guided tour through the Palace's rich Art Deco interiors and gardens. A member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World.
