Can you imagine the elation of being at the helm of one of the world’s largest fully rigged sailing vessels, thousands of feet of sail unfurling above you, a turquoise sea below, and a sun-kissed horizon beckoning you to some far-flung emerald isle? Well, this is how you’d feel if you took a voyage with Star Clippers, which operates three of the largest and tallest fully rigged sailing vessels in the world.

Sailing enthusiasts are encouraged to lend a hand hoisting the sails, climbing the mast or taking to the helm, however if you prefer, you can simply sit back and let the crew do all the work - easy-going informality sums up the atmosphere onboard.

Star Clipper and Star Flyer weigh in at 2,290 tons and carry just 170 guests, with expansive teak decks and ample space for relaxing. The 5000 ton Royal Clipper has the proud distinction of being the largest and only five-masted sailing ship built since her predecessor, Preussen, was launched at the beginning of the last century. With her complement of forty-two sails, Royal Clipper is a splendid sight to behold, carrying 227 guests in some style.

Wherever you want to sail, however you want to spend your time on-shore, we will ensure that every tiniest detail is in place so that your cruise memories will be treasured forever.

On-board Facilities

Accommodation

Burnished brass fittings and mahogany bright-work recall the vessels' nautical heritage in the cabins, with everything ingeniously designed for comfort, ease and efficiency, including double or twin beds, a marble-lined bathroom, safe, television with in-house video, direct-dial telephone (on the Red Clipper) and hairdryer. On-board Royal Clipper, fourteen deluxe suites offer a private balcony, whirlpool bath and 24-hour room service, and all but six of her ninety-eight staterooms are outside. For the ultimate indulgence, the two 430ft² Owner's Suites may be combined to accommodate up to eight guests.

Food & Beverage

One main dining room serves cooked or continental breakfast, a sumptuous buffet lunch and evening meals in an open-seating arrangement, with officers joining guests most evenings in a casually informal environment – no tie required. After dinner, gather together in the piano bar and join in with a few favourite tunes, cocktail in hand.

Relaxation

There are no rigid schedules of entertainment; you are free to do as you wish with your days and nights. At certain ports the ship will bring local performers on board for an authentic taste of the local culture, and the Captain and crew are superb improvisers of some light-hearted fun - the Captain’s daily briefing on deck is something not to be missed!

Cool off with a dip in one of the pools, join the Captain on the always-open bridge as he plots the course for the next landfall. Learn how to splice a line, reef a sail or tie a square knot.

Royal Clipper also offers a spa and health club (with underwater glass portholes!) and  a unique marina platform which lowers to sea level, giving you instant access to watersports.

The dive operation on-board these ships is extensive, with daily guided dive and snorkel trips conducted by Zodiac inflatables right from the ship's gangway. Explore remote reefs, underwater wrecks and blue lagoons where marine species are in abundance. The on-board dive-masters also teach, offering one-day "Discover Scuba" courses, Open Water certifications and advanced-level ratings for those who already have Open Water certifications.

Itineraries

Star Clippers call at a variety of stunning destinations, including the Mediterranean, during the summer months along the coasts of France, Italy, Greece and Turkey, whilst in the winter, cruises sail to Costa Rica, Panama and through the jewels of the Caribbean, anchoring off exquisite, untouched islands. In addition, there are thrilling sailing adventures that transit the Panama Canal as well as enticing and westbound Atlantic crossings.

Itineraries are organised to maximise time under sail and ports of call - with minimal distances between - are favoured, sometimes making it possible to overnight ashore.
