Leisure Facilities

Luxury Hotel Experiences

This is a high-altitude resort and many guests will enjoy the thrill of its demanding environment. However, for those who suffer from altitude sickness, which can affect anyone, regardless of how well you’ve coped in the past, there is an in-house Physician who will help to reduce the hindrance of nausea and lethargy.

Cities

Not just Tibet’s capital city, but also its largest, Lhasa is a city of two halves: the Tibetan District and the Chinese District, simply referred to as Chinatown. The population of Lhasa is roughly fifty per cent Tibetan and fifty per cent  Han Chinese, although the majority of those working in tourism will wear traditional Tibetan dress. The Tibetan side is characterised by Jokhang Temple, where you’ll also find Barkhor Market. A frenzy of activity, this lively market is a commotion of street performers, fortune tellers and vendors selling antiques, swords and saddles, amongst other curiosities. Food stalls provide an eclectic fusion of aromas, from fruit to meat, beans and noodle soup. Of course, a trip to Lhasa wouldn’t be complete without visiting Potala Palace, the enormous fortress-like structure which was once the home of the Dalai Lama.

Luxury Spa Holidays

For now, Iridium Spa at St Regis Lhasa is the highest located luxury spa in the world. And it’s ornate too, with a gold-tiled swimming pool and meditation garden for yoga, Pilates and meditation. Treatments include Tibetan herbal remedies and aromatherapy to help soothe weary souls and alleviate the negative effects of the high altitude.
