Rome is one of those cities that looks effortlessly beautiful by day and dangerously alluring by night. In the heat of summer, Rome's façade is undeniably grand; warm in both temperature and Roman colour, whereas by night, balmy evenings cast an air of tranquillity over Rome - perfect for alfresco dining and intimate walks circling The Colosseum. In fact, The Colosseum is spectacularly lit up at night, adding a certain ghostly magic to its exterior - you can almost hear the roar from its internal crowds. Similarly, there are also after-dark tours to the Baths of Caracalla (every Saturday but only at selected times of the year). It's hard to imagine the original scale of these former baths but it's believed they were over several storeys high and an immense twenty-seven acres in size. Of course, much of Rome looks stunning come nightfall and we recommend you discover as much of it as possible, preferably after a stop at one of the city's delicious gelato parlours.
