Expeditions

'A Sense of Freedom' Private Yacht Experience

New for 2016, Six Senses Laamu offers an exclusive yachting experience, perfect for romantic surprises or a treat for a special occasion. Named ‘Sense of Freedom’, this thirty-seven foot Riviera 37 Flybridge comprises two bedroom cabins, a bathroom with shower and a kitchen galley. Onboard, guests will embark on an exclusive adventure, starting late morning, which includes a lesson in Maldivian fishing, a snorkelling stop to enjoy the beautifully clear waters of the Laamu Atoll and an afternoon picnic on a deserted island, rounded off by sunset cocktails and a beach barbecue on the private sandbank, featuring your catch of the day. A fantastic way to extend your dream island getaway, this luxury yacht experience is a must for anyone looking to make Maldivian memories of a lifetime.

Health & Fitness

Visiting the Six Senses Spa is a unique and interesting experience. Dotted along the glorious Laamu coastline are nine peaceful treatment rooms, four of which resemble giant pod-style nests intertwined between wooden walkways and the other five are more like huts that are shrouded by the lush vegetation.  Guests can enjoy an excellent combination of inventive and modern therapies and sound remedies (the therapeutic manipulation of sound to relieve stress, anxiety and blood pressure), while visiting Practitioners come to practice holistic therapies including acupressure, reflexology and Reiki. The spa also features a hammam, sauna, lap pool and yoga pavilion.

The Six Senses Spa Yogic Sleep Programme

Guests who wish to improve their sleep quality are given a wellness consultation, identifying any fitness, nutritional or stress-related deficiencies that may be preventing a good night’s sleep, before receiving a tailored series of classes, treatments, nutritional advice and tips from one of the resort's Sleep Ambassadors. Additionally, the programme helps enhance the attention span and improve creativity and overall mood, which is achieved with a series of yoga techniques such as yoga nidra (yogi sleep) and pranayama (breathing exercises), guided meditation and traditional Ayurvedic and holistic treatments.

In Addition

Music and cuisine feature highly here with regular visits from DJs, mixologists and chefs. Trendy spots include a chocolate boutique, an ice-cream parlour and an over-water glass wine cellar with a gourmet deli making this place hot and happening.

LUXURYBARED INDEPENDENT REVIEW

Six Senses Laamu

Six Senses has always been associated with barefoot luxury, but over the years the company’s projects haven’t always been consistent in their execution. Fortunately, Laamu has been supremely successful, beautifully developed and very well maintained. Set on a small island with many of the villas – and even the common areas – set over water, it’s a spacious layout. One balks at the amount of wood used in the construction before remembering that at least it is sustainable. For each tree logged, another is planted and if the resort ever closes, the wood would just return to the ocean. The resort has taken the standard Six Senses theme of driftwood luxury, with thatched roofs, colourful linen interiors, oversized cushions and generous proportions. All the overwater buildings are connected by jetty to the mainland. These jetties have no railings and, although the resort is family-friendly, I’d want to hold on to curious little ones on the walkways. The main restaurants, bar, the library, wine cellar, guest reception and the diving school are all on the main jetty and I think there is a real sense of adventure in the design. It’s glorious to be over the azure water so much and from many areas you can jump, dive or just clamber in.
