Silversea offers an all-suite, multi award-winning small ship experience undisturbed by pretence or formality. Luxurious and elegant in an under-stated way, it is a collection of all the small details, the unseen intangibles that make a Silversea voyage so much more. Guests are attended to by a crew that makes a genuine effort to know each individual and anticipate every need, and structured activities are available but they tend toward the relaxing and cerebral, with announcements, games and contests the exception rather than the rule. At sea and in port, days are casual, whilst evenings are low-key but elegant.
Created in the early 90s by the Lefebvre family of Rome, the name was chosen to suggest quality, luxury and the romance of the sea. Encouraged by its initial success with its 16,800 and 17,400 ton sister ships Silver Cloud and Silver Wind, each taking up to 296 guests, the line added another set of larger twins: Silver Shadow in 2000 and Silver Whisper in 2001, both 28,000 tons and carrying 382 guests apiece. These younger ships are similar in design to their predecessors but with larger bathrooms and wardrobes and more top-grade suites. The most recent addition is the brand new Silver Spirit, which at 36,000 tons and a 540 guest capacity is the largest of the fleet and offers a choice of six dining venues, an 8,300ft² spa, a resort-style pool and sumptuous guest suites – nearly all with private balconies.
The ships enjoy a crew to passenger ratio of almost 1 to 1 and enough space to hide yourself away in one of numerous nooks and crannies should you desire. Nevertheless Silversea generally attracts a gregarious gathering of sophisticated travellers, all of whom appreciate the finer things in life.
