The Cool Zone Kid's Club offers fun, educationally-based activities for children aged 4 - 11 years old ensuring mum and dad can take a well earned break. However, the activities on offer at Shangri La Villingili are that appealing, parents may find they want to stay.
Children can dress up as pirates and spend the day exploring the island for hidden treasure or get lost amongst the jungles on a wilderness adventure. Those with a creative mindset will enjoy making shell necklaces at the arts and crafts sessions and jump at the chance to don the chef's hat while learning the tricks of the culinary trade. Crab-catching is followed by crab racing along the beach while a whole host of physical activities from swimming to tennis will keep children both occupied and healthy.
CHI, the Spa at Shangri-La offers therapies perfect for a little indulgent unwinding. Combining the traditional Chinese philosophy of well being and vitality alongside the Five Elements Theory, treatments are devised around the guest's individual element sign, whether that be fire, earth, water, metal or wood.
Therapists will lead you to individual treatment villas set amongst private gardens and steam rooms for Ayurvedic and Asian treatments, hydrotherapy and meditation. The Coconut, Milk and Honey Wrap is particularly splendid - a delicious mix of three divinely silky ingredients and a fresh coconut exfoliation, leaving skin soft, smooth and verging on edible.
For internal well being, meditation classes and a serene yoga pavilion overlooking the majestic Indian Ocean is a pleasant retreat to aid calm and relaxation.
Shangri-La Villingili offers two fascinating island tours covering the Addu Atoll and Gan Island's historical sights. Take a group bike tour through Maldivian towns, stopping to talk to the locals and school-going children while venturing further into the surrounding terrain and wildlife. Alternatively, take a speedboat to Gan and discover the island by car; covering five islands connected only by causeways, explore Maldivian mosques and areas of outstanding beauty before a spot of birdwatching and purchasing of hand-crafted souvenirs. As well as these two excellent tours, the resort also offers sun-set yachting, night fishing and dolphin cruises a long with extensive snorkelling opportunities to observe beautiful reef life and ocean turtles.
The Shangri-La Villingili golf course, is the first 9-hole recreational course in the Maldives. Set on seven and a half hectares, at the southern end of the island, most of the holes are a par 3 and average 123.4 yards; the course highlights the island's natural beauty and has been designed to be fun for beginners and aficionados alike.
