Sandy Lane: A Well-deserved Firm Favourite With Elegant Resorts

By Tara Taylor

Partnership Manager

Posted: 27 January 2015

Just like all guests arriving at Sandy Lane, Tara and Anthony were welcomed personally by the management team, which was a lovely start to their stay, which just kept getting better and better. Tara was immediately taken aback by the spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea against the white stone and pink of the bright lobby, describing the colours as looking like they’d been 'Photoshopped'! Tara couldn’t take the smile off her face and she knew this was going to be a wonderful two nights.

Guest Relations Manager, Alpha Jackman, really made Tara and Anthony feel at home as he showed them to their Luxury Ocean Rooms for check-in. Spacious and boasting perfect beach and ocean views − and the sun set in the evenings − these rooms are delightful. Just when Tara thought it couldn’t get any better, she opened the door to her fabulous bathroom and was, yet again, taken aback. As you may by now have guessed from Tara's other posts, she’s a huge fan of beautiful hotel bathrooms − and could easily reel off her top ten if she was put on the spot − so she was very happy to discover that this one had plenty of space, a large bath and a separate shower with massage jets from top to bottom. By now her cheeks were really starting to ache from all her smiling!

She took up residence in the bathroom and started getting ready for the weekly Manager’s Cocktail Party that evening. When she was all dolled up she flicked through the seemingly endless choice of television and music channels − finally settling on some Ella Fitzgerald − poured a glass of Champagne and sat on her balcony listening to the relaxing sounds of the crickets and the gently lapping waves. After mingling with other guests and sipping more Champagne and savouring pre-dinner canapés, Anthony and Tara sat down for a delicious buffet at Bajan Blue restaurant. Charming Alpha came and chatted to them again, and it soon became apparent that he’s somewhat of a celebrity at Sandy Lane, with all of the guests keen to exchange stories about the island and their day’s activities with him. After dinner Tara retired to her room and enjoyed a nightcap on her balcony listening to nature's sounds, which she just loved.

Tara woke up very early the following morning (still on UK time!), opened the curtains from the comfort of her bed using the bedside touch panel, looked out at the sea and decided to walk down to the beach to watch the sun rising. She says that it was so peaceful and the colours of the sky and the ocean as the sun came up were spectacular. Later, she met Anthony at Bajan Blue for breakfast where staff including Alpha, Mr Randall Wilkie the General Manager and Mario the Hotel Manager, wished them good morning. Tara says that they, like the other guests, genuinely appreciated this personal touch. It’s probably a big part of the reason why the hotel has so many repeat guests.

Following breakfast they were taken on a full tour of the hotel and discovered just how impressive every aspect of the property is. From the beautiful swimming pool with its cascading waterfall, to the beach where there is personalised beachside service and a range of water sports, to everything in between. It’s a great place for a family holiday and The Treehouse Club offers a host of activities for children and teenagers, while a variety of family-focused activities take place throughout the year. In fact, Tara has it on good authority that the annual Sandcastle Building competition has become a hotly contested event with some families even flying in special props and accessories to give them the best chance of success!

Of course, Sandy Lane, is legendary for luxury golf holidays too and The Green Monkey 18-hole course, carved out from a limestone quarry, is an experience not to be missed by any golfer. Meanwhile, the Country Club, that also has eighteen holes, offers stunning views of the Caribbean Sea and the Old Nine, that meanders through the Sandy Lane Estate, is the most demanding course. Golfers will want for nothing with state-of-the-art GPS technology installed on every golf cart that even allows you to pre-order your lunch and drinks, otherwise drinks and light bites can be purchased from a van that services the golf courses.

After her tour, Tara headed to the spa for some pampering. She advises arriving early to take full advantage of the facilities that include experience showers, hydrotherapy pools and a sauna. Her treatment suite was fitted with mood enhancing lights that instantly made her feel relaxed and her full body massage, was excellent.

Even though Tara only spent two days at Sandy Lane, she fell well and truly into the Caribbean way of life and had managed to fit such a lot in to such a short stay. When it came to leave, she and Anthony were waved off by the management team and the gentleman that greeted them at the gate on their arrival  told them that he hoped to see them again soon. Indeed, Tara hopes that she will return again one day, but either way, her memories of her truly memorable stay are ones that she will never forget.

About Tara

Tara has always had a passion for travel and it's the direction she knew she was destined for from an early age. She's worked in travel for over 20 years, the majority of those being in luxury travel, and has worked in both reservations and product departments, covering all corners of the globe. She joined Elegant Resorts in 2009 and has spent time as Product Manager for Europe & North Africa and the Indian Ocean, and is now responsible for our Caribbean and Arabian Gulf portfolios, as well as overseeing operations in our Barbados office. Her favourite destination changes every time she visits a new place, however she still has a deep rooted love for Paris − and even though she has been travelling there at least once a year since the age of 16, it never fails to sweep her off her feet as she discovers something new on every visit!
