The high-altitude rainforest, Parc National des Volcans, is the natural habitat for the critically endangered Mountain Gorilla.
It is estimated that there are no more than seven-hundred of these magnificent creatures left in the wild, and that about half of them are in the Rwandan section of the Parc National des Volcans, making this one of the optimum spots for a clear sighting. Finding yourself a few metres from a stately Silverback or observing a group of young primates at play are experiences that will last a lifetime.
Please note that gorilla-viewing permits cost from USD$500 per person and are in high demand. We recommend booking two consecutive days, due to the weather, and well in advance. Gorilla treks are suitable only for those aged fifteen years old and over.
